Gu Yue Chi Lian

He enters the story during the Gu Yue Awakening Ceremony on Qing Mao Mountain, where the text places the clan after its migration into the South Border. He has a head of red hair and is named as Gu Yue Mo Chen’s old rival among the watching elders. ^{ch. 4}

Chi faction head

Inside the Gu Yue clan, power sits in three camps: the clan leader’s side, Gu Yue Chi Lian’s Chi family, and Gu Yue Mo Chen’s Mo family. ^{ch. 78} Later wording calls that same camp the Chi faction, and treats Chi Lian as the figure whose grandson’s wins would bring it honour. ^{ch. 83} The text also records a Chi bloodline claim when he tries to adopt Gu Yue Fang Zheng after the A grade result, before Gu Yue Bo takes the boy himself. ^{ch. 6}

He is already a clan elder of high authority when the novel opens. ^{ch. 4} Only rank three Gu Masters produce white silver primeval essence. ^{ch. 22} When he pours primeval essence into his grandson, the text names that essence as silver primeval essence, which places him at rank three without stating a finer stage inside that rank. The Qing Mao stretch does not inventory a personal combat Gu kit for him beyond the rank three aura he can bring to bear when helping Chi Cheng refine and when confronting Fang Yuan in the study. ^{ch. 50 ch. 155}

Grandson and the false aptitude

His only direct grandson is Gu Yue Chi Cheng, also written as Gu Yue Chi Chen in early chapters. ^{ch. 4 ch. 21} Chi Lian tells him outright that the clan-facing B grade result is a cheat covering a true C grade talent, done so the Chi family keeps a successor strong enough to hold its supporters. ^{ch. 29}

He then sustains that cover by transferring his own primeval essence into Chi Cheng’s aperture every few days, knowing the method is dangerous and leaves foreign aura that will limit the boy’s future unless a Cleansing Water Gu can flush it out. He also uses his relationships to search for a Liquor worm for Chi Cheng as a safer nurturing path. ^{ch. 50} Fang Yuan later reads the same need when a Cleansing Water Gu appears for sale in the caravan treehouse, and Chi Lian does buy that Gu for his grandson. ^{ch. 111 ch. 155} Tie Ruo Nan later finds the purchase price and timing in Jia Fu’s intel and reconstructs the same motive. ^{ch. 179} A later chapter still uses Chi Lian and Chi Cheng as the Qing Mao Mountain example of an elder imparting refined primeval essence. ^{ch. 226}

Translation notes

The fan translation writes his name as Gu Yue Chi Lian. Early chapters also call his grandson Gu Yue Chi Chen, then settle on Gu Yue Chi Cheng; both strings refer to the same heir. The faction under him is called Chi family, Chi family branch, and Chi faction in different chapters, with no change of membership implied. No Chinese characters for his personal name appear in the English chapter text used here.
