Hei Cheng collapses in tall grass beside a stream, cut to the bone by wounds from Hei tribe’s own pursuers. He is too spent even to rise. Only the tribe’s wish to take him alive has let him escape so many times. Hei Lou Lan finds him first, and his fear of her is worse than his fear of the tribe.
