Unravel Dream Succeeds
Even together the two Su tribe Gu Masters only match the charging Hei tribe Gu Master, and they can only hope Fang Yuan, a weak medicine hall elder, holds out until they reach him. The Gu Master, plotting this, risks injury to kill the healer first. He holds a strong attack in reserve. ch. 774
He closes the distance, but Fang Yuan stands unmoved, his trump card ready. Fang Yuan says unravel, and with his eyes flashing green-purple the Gu Master’s eyes fill with despair as his body fades and vanishes a few steps away. He tells them to reinforce the others, since killing Hei Cheng is the priority, and the three sprint into the grassland. ch. 774
The scene changes: a starlit night with no moon. Fang Yuan rushes with the tribe leader’s group toward Hei Cheng. They vow to avenge the academy elder’s death and call Su Xian Er’s betrayal in helping Hei Cheng escape unforgivable. ch. 774
A cold laugh from a mound stops the group: a figure appears whose hiding skill is so complete their investigative methods never found it. The tribe leader stalls as elders encircle the mound. The figure does not move. Two more mysterious Gu Masters ambush the climbing elders, heavily injuring one and lightly injuring the other, who keeps fighting while the first retreats. ch. 774
Behind the tribe leader, Fang Yuan recognizes the mysterious Gu Master partway up the mound as Hei Lou Lan, broad shouldered and fierce. She is locked in fierce combat with the lightly injured Su tribe elder, steadily beating him back. Fang Yuan shouts her name and runs past the tribe leader toward her. A Su tribe Gu Master who fought beside him earlier calls him an impostor. ch. 774
Hearing the name Fang Yuan, Hei Lou Lan hardens, orders everyone to scram, and hurls a dark vortex at him while the two mysterious Gu Masters charge him too. Fang Yuan casts unravel dream again, and within a few breaths the vortex and both attackers vanish. Hei Lou Lan grows very wary and retreats. Because she is dreaming herself, Unravel Dream cannot touch her directly. ch. 774
Fang Yuan chases helplessly after Hei Lou Lan, and the tribe leader’s group follows toward Hei Cheng, who moves slowly with Su Xian Er supporting him. Fang Yuan senses a trap. Hei Lou Lan reaches them first; Su Xian Er, not recognizing her own daughter, begs her to take the young master and flee. Hei Lou Lan rebukes her as a mortal who has sealed her fate by betraying the tribe. She slams her palm into Hei Cheng’s head, smashing it apart, and shouts in triumph that she has finally killed him with her own hands. ch. 774
Fang Yuan’s heart sinks: at once the dream resets to the same banquet hall. He recognizes this as a recurring dream, its three scenes looping endlessly. Checking himself, he finds he is no longer the medicine hall elder but a rank two metal path door guard. He worries that Hei Lou Lan has sunk into the dream and no longer reacts even to his name. Each cycle draws out more of her hatred for her father, sinking her deeper. ch. 774
Seven days and seven nights later by Snowy Mountain time, Hei Lou Lan wakes, understanding she was dreaming and that Fang Yuan saved her. Fang Yuan forces his eyes open, his soul badly hurt and his mind extremely drained. After dozens of rounds inside her dream, gaining experience through repeated failure, he had finally killed Hei Cheng himself before Hei Lou Lan could, ruining her goal. Her hatred stayed unresolved and the dream changed again, and only at its seventeenth change did he rouse her into realizing she was dreaming. Eight more rounds later the two of them broke the dream together and escaped. Too injured to stay, Fang Yuan says he must leave, and that Fairy Li Shan will explain the compensation. Hei Lou Lan is about to thank him, but at the word compensation an ominous feeling rises in her heart instead. ch. 774
