The third true inheritance turns out to concern extending lifespan, since a Gu Master’s cultivation improves the essence of their life at rank six but does not add years directly. Mortal methods exist all the same. First Gen Gu Yue of Qing Mao mountain chose to become a zombie, while the southern border demonic path Gu Master Century Boy used a return to childhood Gu on himself to keep a child’s appearance and slow the loss of his lifeforce. ch. 599
Giant Sun Immortal Venerable created his own method for Gu Immortals, an immortal art he named Possession, built around a core rank six possession Immortal Gu and about three thousand rank five mortal Gu. Fang Yuan recognizes the name from his previous life. In the chaotic battle of the five regions to come, possession Immortal Gu let many high ranking Gu Immortals extend their own lifespans, changing the course of that fighting. ch. 599
Fang Yuan briefly imagines profiting from selling the Gu later, but calms down once his special will reports the inheritance is an empty shell, its possession Immortal Gu and three thousand mortal Gu already taken by someone else. Eighty-Eight True Yang Building once held eighty-eight true inheritances. By Mo Yao’s time, ten thousand years earlier, only fifty-three remained. The rounds are hard enough that a winner of the Imperial Court contest rarely reaches ten edges, but even so, over the years since, some capable individuals still managed to enter the secluded domain. The empty inheritance still carries a passage attacking Giant Sun’s possession method, arguing that lifespan Gu remains the better choice and ending on the words hard, hard, hard. It is signed by Spectral Soul Demon Venerable. Fang Yuan reasons that Spectral Soul, born two hundred thousand years after Giant Sun’s death and the greatest expert in souls, likely never took the Gu himself, since the passage voices no interest in the possession method at all. ch. 599
Seeing venerables suffer this same fatigue and helplessness only sharpens Fang Yuan’s own ambition. Where Immortal Venerables and Demon Venerables reach only a long life, Fang Yuan’s own goal is eternal life, a realm past what any venerable has reached. ch. 599
Fang Yuan finds two more ordinary inheritances, both wisdom path: false emotion fake will Gu and loving affection Gu, each a rank six Immortal Gu. Giant Sun’s harem of women stands as proof of his wisdom path skill. Fang Yuan wants neither Gu and lets both go. ch. 599
Fang Yuan asks why he has not found an unparalleled inheritance yet, and Mo Yao explains the domain is vast and the inheritances drift at random, so patience is needed; she herself once searched for three whole months. Contact with a true inheritance speeds up every one of them. Mo Yao warns that the longer a Gu Master stays, the faster and more dangerous the inheritances become, and that she herself nearly died here after three months even at her own Gu Immortal realm. She estimates a mortal like Fang Yuan can check at most eight inheritances and survive at most a month, and he has already seen five. ch. 599
Fang Yuan recalls that in the footage from his previous life, eleven central continent Gu Immortals entered this domain, but only nine reappeared afterward, all of them injured. He suspects the other two died here. ch. 599
Three days later, Fang Yuan reaches a sixth inheritance, another Giant Sun lifespan method he calls the yin-yang path, developed from his research into Ren Zu. It needs a male and female Gu Immortal to copulate together. One partner’s lifespan grows only by taking the same amount from the other, and this inheritance too has already been taken. ch. 599
Thirteen days after that, Fang Yuan finds a seventh light lump, the size of a washing basin, burning white and giving off a stronger aura than any ordinary inheritance. Mo Yao names it an unparalleled true inheritance. ch. 599
