Chapter 600

Fang Yuan tries the same trick on the unparalleled inheritance, sending a will inside his rank two big soul worm toward the burning white light. This time it fails. Before the worm even closes to within three hundred steps, its connection to Fang Yuan breaks entirely, and it hangs motionless, unresponsive to every command. Fang Yuan’s own will inside it has vanished without a trace, leaving the worm ownerless and open to anyone who sends a will of their own. ^{ch. 600}

Mo Yao recognizes the inheritance from her own past visit to the secluded domain. It holds a rank seven Immortal Gu that Giant Sun Immortal Venerable personally refined, called human qi Gu, an item so strange that even Mo Yao, once a rank seven Gu Immortal herself, had to spend heavily just to approach it. ^{ch. 600}

Fang Yuan connects this to the three qi of immortal ascension, and Mo Yao explains that a Gu Master shatters their aperture to take in heaven qi and earth qi when they advance to Gu Immortal. Those two must balance against human qi. Human qi is the sum of a Gu Master’s own accumulation: battle strength, physical toughness, soul depth, familiarity with Gu worms, understanding of heaven and earth, awareness of their own nature, and their luck, talent, aptitude, fortuitous encounters and insights. ^{ch. 600}

Human qi Gu absorbs other people’s human qi and purifies it. It adds the purified qi to its user’s own at the moment of advancement, raising the odds of a successful breakthrough. Without enough human qi, most rank five Gu Masters are overwhelmed and killed by the heaven and earth qi they take in. If word of this Gu ever got out, Fang Yuan judges it could raise the number of Gu Immortals across a whole region and shift the balance of the five regions. ^{ch. 600}

The Gu is too strong for his mortal body, and his will was already purified into a negligible trace of human qi before it even drew close. Fang Yuan judges it unsuited to him now. He reasons he would have no use for it even as a Gu Immortal unless he built a force of his own, and moves on without regret. ^{ch. 600}

Fang Yuan tells Mo Yao he now understands the danger she warned him of. She explains that every contact with a true inheritance, and every moment spent in the domain, makes all the inheritances fly faster, forcing Gu Masters to choose quickly or be caught by them. By the end they move as fast as meteors, and his near miss with the human qi Gu shows what a direct hit would do to a mortal body. ^{ch. 600}

Mo Yao reveals a tier above unparalleled: Supreme True Inheritance, of which only three exist in the whole secluded domain. No mortal could ever receive one. Imperial Court blessed land also bars Gu Immortals from entering at all, which she says is why Eighty-Eight True Yang Building has survived so long with over half of its eighty-eight inheritances still intact. ^{ch. 600}

Reaching this point at all takes winning the Imperial Court contest, held once a decade, clearing at least ten floors of Eighty-Eight True Yang Building with a force strong and varied enough to manage it, and then passing the chosen true inheritance’s own test. Even then the inheritance found might not suit its winner. In the middle of the warning, Mo Yao suddenly cries out in alarm: an adult sized light lump trailing a long burning tail is flying straight at Fang Yuan. ^{ch. 600}
