Chapter 598

Fang Yuan works hard to catch a jade light that twists and turns, harder to reach than the first lump. Mo Yao warns him it is Old Immortal Kong Jue’s item. The warning comes too late, and a mystical vibration spreads from the light into his aperture, where his ninety percent filled aperture sea crashes in waves hard enough to crack the rank five peak stage crystal walls. ^{ch. 598}

Mo Yao shouts at him to cut off his arms with Gu worms to save his life, but a strong suction force keeps his hands fixed to the light. Fang Yuan has an inspiration instead. He moves the primeval essence from his second aperture into his first, letting both apertures share the vibration, and the crisis eases enough that the walls crack without breaking. Mo Yao is shocked, since it confirms rumors she had heard that Fang Yuan carries a second aperture. ^{ch. 598}

Fang Yuan asks about Old Immortal Kong Jue, and Mo Yao names him one of the Three Olds, three refinement path supreme grandmasters across human history. Remote antiquity’s Old Eccentric Tian Nan tried to refine the sky and lost his life doing it. Olden antiquity’s Old Immortal Kong Jue studied apertures most deeply. His method let the ten extreme physiques become immortals for the first time. Medieval antiquity’s Long Hair Ancestor lived longest and refined the most Immortal Gu, including Eighty-Eight True Yang Building itself. Rumor held that he could refine lifespan Gu, which is said to be why Old Ancestor Giant Sun once attacked Lang Ya blessed land, though nothing came of it. ^{ch. 598}

The light lump also holds what is called immortal ascension vital information, Old Immortal Kong Jue’s record of how every path of Gu Master might rise to immortal, its difficulties, and its crucial points. Mo Yao says its true value is Giant Sun’s own notes on it. Fang Yuan declines it anyway, since he already carries his previous life’s experience on the blood path and has other reasons for entering the true inheritance space. Mo Yao warns he will regret it later. Fang Yuan laughs that regret is not a word in his life, and lets the jade light fly off. ^{ch. 598}

He finds a third, grey light lump, faster than the first two and trailing a frost colored tail like a shooting star. Mo Yao offers to teach him a way to avoid the true inheritance’s test entirely, by using wisdom path Gu worms to send in a will and read the content directly. Thoughts are like water droplets, easy to make but fragile. Wills are like ice cubes instead, harder to form but tougher, and able to move on their own and be recalled when needed. ^{ch. 598}

Mo Yao presses him about the special will Gu, deliberate will Gu, and other wisdom path Gu worms he has bought and never used, promising that a will made with them will be pure enough that even she cannot infiltrate it. The same method could also probe unparalleled inheritances. Fang Yuan wonders what she truly wants, and whether she really means only to return Water Pavilion to Spirit Affinity House. He asks himself whether he is simply too wary of her. Against that, he reflects that a will, unlike a simple thought, is built from many thoughts fused together and so can lie. ^{ch. 598}

He decides to try it anyway and takes out the eight wisdom path Gu worms he has collected, each producing its own kind of will. Special will Gu makes a will that only activates under special circumstances, deliberate will Gu makes one as hard to remove as carving on steel, and play will Gu makes the will most capable of carrying emotion. Each type can also devour or unmake its own kind in a rival’s hands. Fang Yuan had bought all of them originally to deal with Mo Yao’s own mysterious will, but found that none of them could touch it. ^{ch. 598}

He casually picks the special will Gu and injects primeval essence, forming a will that looks like himself, though more manly and decisive in the face. Mo Yao says the will needs a small soul worm to carry it out of him, but Fang Yuan already has a rank two big soul worm ready, palm sized, hollow, and shaped like a butterfly. He sends the will into it and flies it to the light lump. The soul worm returns tattered, but the retrieved will shows this third inheritance is still ordinary, though worth far more to some Gu Masters, and even Gu Immortals, than the first two. ^{ch. 598}
