Besieging Fang Yuan

Fang Yuan’s destruction of the Beacon Towers causes such a huge commotion that even Heavenly Court, with very weak influence in Southern Border, detects it. Southern Border’s righteous path deduces three locations, the five regional mountain range among them, but Fairy Zi Wei had named the range a step earlier. Jun Shen Guang heads for it. The range is man-made, created by the rank eight restriction path Gu Immortal Tao Zhu, called Restriction Expert for his extraordinary attainment level. Tao Zhu died without progress on letting Gu Immortals cross regional walls easily, and his range remained a special area in Southern Border. ch. 1622

Jun Shen Guang reasons that Fang Yuan suffers almost no suppression in regional walls but cannot draw in enough heaven and earth qi there to undergo tribulation. The man-made range has ample earth qi and no shortage of heaven qi, so it gives Fang Yuan some territorial advantage. Jun Shen Guang arrives fast because he had been lurking nearby, and Heavenly Court has watched the range heavily since Fairy Zi Wei listed it months ago among the top locations. She transferred many rank eight Gu Immortals into the other four regions for this hunt, and Southern Border got two. Wei Feng, the second, is far away but rushing over. ch. 1622

Near the range, Jun Shen Guang hides with a killer move and sees qi drawn endlessly into a shadowed center like a bottomless hole. He advances warily, since walking into a trap would be truly miserable. Investigation confirms that an otherworldly demon is undergoing tribulation, so he is almost one hundred percent sure Fang Yuan is there. Heavenly Court, which has recruited otherworldly demons before, owns a method to detect them, and since Fairy Zi Wei recently modified it, he judges deception too unlikely. He has also heard that Yuan Qiong Du, after joining Heavenly Court, has been refining Immortal Gu against Fang Yuan, a first in history for a rank seven. He adds that Fang Yuan may simply be unable to delay the grand tribulation any longer. ch. 1622

Jun Shen Guang exults that this is Fang Yuan’s weakest moment, since Fang Yuan cannot move during tribulation and could not use Fixed Immortal Travel. He plans to stalk from behind until Fang Yuan’s luck weakens, then enter by force and kill him. Clear Jade Dripping Wind Tiny Bamboo Building, an Immortal Gu House, charges into the range like lightning. Chilled by the speed of the Southern Border immortals, he credits the Beacon Towers and resolves that Heavenly Court must destroy them first when it invades. Still, he is somewhat happy, wanting them to wear down Fang Yuan first. ch. 1622

Inside the bamboo building, Wu Yong and the righteous path immortals look over the range until wisdom path Gu Immortals deduce that Fang Yuan is almost certainly undergoing tribulation there. Xia Zhao and Xia Chen Yuan, second and third supreme elders of Xia clan, want to save their first supreme elder Xia Cha but go along with the mood. Hatred and the chance at inheritances of multiple venerables turn the immortals’ eyes red. Wu Yong says the newly established alliance needs a name made on an infamous demon, and he orders an attack from all sides. The immortals rush out, Chi Qu You and Shang Wu Jie among the rank eights and Yao Du, Hou Teng and Ba De among the rank sevens. ch. 1622

Hidden nearby, Jun Shen Guang sees almost the full force of the righteous path, with probably only minor rank six immortals left at headquarters. Inside the sovereign immortal aperture, heaven qi condenses into dozens of giant beams of light that shoot at Fang Yuan, while earth qi solidifies to restrain him. Fang Yuan watches outside his aperture rather than the tribulation, noting that the righteous path hates him and craves his wealth, and expecting Heavenly Court ambushers he cannot yet find. He sighs that the Beacon Towers are troublesome, being extremely easy to rebuild. In his first life Southern Border built them on a large scale only after repeated defeats, but in this life he has brought that forward. ch. 1622
