Appearance

The surface water looks calm, but many undercurrents of every kind run below. White clouds shroud the sky so starlight cannot be seen; even when the sun is blazing, sunlight cannot penetrate the cloud layers and only makes the place brighter. ^{ch. 1150}

While crossing the Eastern Sea toward Northern Plains, the demonic path Gu Immortal Fang Yuan weighs a detour into the turbulent flow sea area and then refuses it. His earlier life already ranked the place as a maze that can trap an Immortal for months or years even when it is not a slaughter ground. ^{ch. 1045}

Geography

The turbulent flow sea area is a unique place inside Eastern Sea. Its surface water looks calm, but many undercurrents of every kind run below with no fixed rhythm, and Gu Immortals name the sea area from that contrast. Cloud and fog cover the sky the entire time, so Immortals who enter often lose their sense of direction. ^{ch. 1150}

The sea area sits close to Eastern Sea’s blue water regional wall. That closeness is why Fang Yuan’s Southern Border to Northern Plains route brushes it and why earlier fights break out near it. ^{ch. 1153}

Currents and travel

Rumors already treat the place as an old battlefield where Gu Immortal experts fell and left inheritances, so Immortals from Eastern Sea, Central Continent, Northern Plains, and Southern Border come hunting for fortune. Fang Yuan’s five hundred years of memory holds many disappearances and few huge finds. ^{ch. 1045} An intense fight among many rank six and seven Gu Immortals, with no rank eight among them, carved dao marks that remade the environment into this sea area and left wealth and inheritances behind. ^{ch. 1150}

Inside, the currents gather waters from far regions. On Fang Yuan’s first deep trip he crosses yellow spring water from the yellow spring sea area, thousand illusion water from Eastern Sea’s thousand illusion sea area, a magma current from Western Desert’s blazing glory pit, a black soul current, a gold fragment current he judges as debris from immemorial yellow heaven, and a lightning water current. ^{ch. 1155} Ying Wu Xie also states that a tributary of the River of Time runs among the currents here, which is why Shadow Sect could store treasure and use Regret Pool on an island inside. ^{ch. 1103}

Space path Immortal Gu are hard to use because the local dao marks are chaotic, so the safe habit is ordinary travel, and distance inside does not map cleanly onto time to a destination. At the center the sea area stays relatively stable, and bubbles hold seas, islands, carcasses, and inheritances left from that founding battle. ^{ch. 1156}
