First naming

In Ming Tang valley, the demonic path Gu Immortal Gong Sun Liang, called Unmoving Mountain, receives a request from the organization’s boss to borrow his Immortal Gu. After a near-fatal escape from Central Continent righteous path pursuit, a mysterious man saved him and led him into that organization, which is called Defy. Members are identified with numbers and stay mysterious; Gong Sun Liang credits Defy with help that kept him from capture by the ten great sects. Codename marks join time and status, and Boss sits at the top as the person who created Defy. ^{ch. 1030}

Two sword path Gu Immortals of Great Heavenly Sword Sect, Miao Jun and Miao Yue, receive the same boss request and refuse. They joined Defy hoping for help leaving Immortal Crane Sect vassal status, did not get that help, and will not lend Immortal Gu. ^{ch. 1030}

Shadow Sect shell

Defy was created by Shadow Sect. Under Heavenly Court rule, the ten great ancient sects hold most Central Continent resources; smaller forces form short-lived alliances that the ten sects break or that collapse from inside conflict. Shadow Sect secretly created Defy, selected members carefully, and treated the project as a casual move with low expectations, because those members were neither otherworldly demons nor fate escapees suited to resist heaven’s will. After Shadow Sect’s later setback, Ying Wu Xie has to use Defy; most members make excuses when asked to lend Immortal Gu, member identities stay secret from one another, and enforcement is not strict. Only unsupported demonic path Gu Immortals such as Gong Sun Liang depend on Defy enough that he risks the loan. ^{ch. 1030}
