Wanting the stones intact and Han Li tortured rather than killed outright, he lets the fist miss, but it still shatters the rock pile and breaks Han Li’s leg. Han Li throws himself into a crevice, too injured now to climb further. His primeval essence spent, the Gu Master advances on him, but the rocks forming the crevice suddenly collapse on the Gu Master, breaking his sternum and piercing his lungs until he dies. The sect holds only three places at the coming Refinement Path Convention. The sixteen compete for the academy’s single disciple slot. Spectators identify Cao Yu, Xie Lan and Lu Wen as the academy’s three most talented refinement path disciples, first to reach the round’s final barrier, and doubt any unknown disciple could challenge them since refinement path training’s resource cost cannot be hidden. More disciples reach the same barrier as time passes, until spectators agree the winner will come from among the three.
