Heaven and earth qi are the paired qi a Gu Master takes in when ascending to Gu Immortal. Their thickness shapes aperture foundation, tribulation force, and later blessed land grade.
When advancing to Gu Immortal, the Gu Master shatters the aperture and takes in heaven qi and earth qi. More of both raises the chance of success, but those two cannot accumulate without limit: they must stay level with human qi. Little human qi against high heaven and earth qi lets the pair suppress and swallow man qi, so heaven and earth assimilate the Gu Master and the attempt ends in death. ch. 600
Source and leftover qi
During Tai Bai Yun Sheng’s ascension, heaven and earth qi converge into the immortal aperture as green and golden mists. Heaven and earth qi are the source of all living beings; as the two interact they evolve into the things of heaven and earth. The more heaven, earth, and human qi fuse, the higher the blessed land grade. High grade lands leave leftover heaven and earth qi that can mutually interact and refine a mortal Gu into an Immortal Gu. Humans who take in heaven and earth qi and fuse them with human qi induce heavenly tribulations and earthly calamities through that fusion. ch. 609
Regional signature
Heaven and earth qi differ across the five regions. A simple test of that qi can reveal which region a Gu Immortal came from when ascending. ch. 679
Thickness and tribulation
Places with little vitality have thin heaven and earth qi. Ascending there softens heavenly tribulation and earthly calamity, but weak foundation and future potential follow unless Gu worms store and supply extra heaven and earth qi. Heavenly tribulations and earthly calamities form when heaven and earth qi grow too thick and accumulate. ch. 683
Heaven qi alone is covered on heaven qi. Earth qi alone is covered on earth qi. Human qi and the three qi balance are covered on human qi and three qi.
