Swords Traverse Central Continent

In a lantern-lit cabin, Feng Jin Huang lies on the bed, weak and pale, and apologizes to Fairy Bai Qing. Fairy Bai Qing tells her that cultivating so desperately has already injured her five or six times in recent weeks, risking collapse or even her life. As punishment she places a Gu forbidding cultivation for seven days, confining her to the valley. Feng Jin Huang, very anxious, protests. A touch of Fairy Bai Qing’s sleeve sends an intense sleepiness through her, and she falls asleep before she can say more. ch. 955

Fairy Bai Qing has not told her daughter that Feng Jiu Ge is dead. Spirit Affinity House wants it concealed as long as possible, and a mortal is not qualified to know it. Feng Jin Huang has been cultivating so desperately only to save her father, and Fairy Bai Qing cannot bear to speak the truth to her. ch. 955

Watching her sleeping daughter, Fairy Bai Qing sighs, sad and worried, and only now, alone, drops her disguise. She is truly tired. She softly caresses Feng Jin Huang’s face, in which she can vaguely see Feng Jiu Ge’s own features. With Feng Jiu Ge dead, her daughter is now her only sustenance to keep living. ch. 955

At dawn Fairy Bai Qing rises and closes the cabin door. She murmurs for Huang Er to wait seven days and take care of herself. She is not worried for her daughter’s safety, since this is the sect’s own central region. She flies northwest toward the source of Falling Heavenly River, to investigate Bo Qing’s clue. ch. 955

Bo Qing, she learns from the sect’s own records, lived a life extremely similar to Feng Jiu Ge’s. His lover interests her more. Mo Yao, that generation’s fairy of Spirit Affinity House, was an inkman rather than a human, yet she and Bo Qing fell in love at first sight. Fairy Bai Qing wonders whether Mo Yao’s entry into Northern Plains connects to Eighty-Eight True Yang Building’s fall. She knows Mo Yao risked entering Imperial Court blessed land to help her husband pass his tribulation. ch. 955

Peak rank eight Bo Qing’s attempt at the rank nine tribulation drew the attention of all five regions. He died in the trial, and Mo Yao perished with him. Recalling it now, Fairy Bai Qing feels as though she and Mo Yao are in the same boat, even envying her for dying together with her husband, a couple who never let each other down. ch. 955

Unable to progress further, Fairy Bai Qing follows the sect’s clues to the river’s source, where Bo Qing perished, though reaching it by her own methods would take up to a year. She uses her sect’s own Gu formations. She then pays a high price for Myriad Dragon Dock’s and Combat Immortal Sect’s transportation formations, saving a large amount of time. A day and a night later, fatigued, she is finally only a thousand li from the source. ch. 955

Ahead lies an enormous waterfall falling from an endless height. Seeing it again reminds her of Feng Jiu Ge, and she cannot avoid feeling distressed. He had once told her two accounts of the river’s origin, one being that Bo Qing’s daytime tribulation sword light pierced white heaven and black heaven, letting a heavenly river fall through. Unsure which was right, he said that account explains the flow: by day the current is too strong for even rank eight Gu Immortals, and by night a rank seven can barely hold. ch. 955

She has borrowed many water path Immortal Gu for this trip, but as only a rank seven Gu Immortal, she cannot enter by day. She slows and waits nearby for nightfall. ch. 955

At sunset an immemorial desolate beast startles her. It stretches an enormous, curved-horned bull head from beneath the river. She recognizes it as a myriad eyes clear bull, one of the riverbed’s own overlords. With an ominous feeling, she retreats to a safe distance, since its rank eight battle strength is beyond her and hunting is not her purpose here. ch. 955

Before she can withdraw further, a sword light shoots from the riverbed and instantly cuts the bull in two, its blood staining the river red. Another slashes the riverbank open, and water pours rapidly toward the gap. Extremely shocked, Fairy Bai Qing watches countless more sword lights shoot out from below Falling Heavenly River. They fly everywhere like fireworks before rapidly vanishing from her sight: swords traverse Central Continent. ch. 955
