Benevolent Equality

Duke Long and Fairy Zi Wei already mean to use Benevolent Equality on Spring Autumn Cicada, but benevolence Gu is still in Southern Border with Paradise Earth’s inheritor Lu Wei Yin. Duke Long says Fang Yuan may wrap Spring Autumn Cicada in a killer move, and that Benevolent Equality is the most appropriate answer to that threat. Fairy Zi Wei plans to contact Lu Wei Yin to borrow benevolence Gu, and they treat his refusal or agreement as a probe: refusal raises the chance Fang Yuan has already rebirthed because the move counters him, while agreement makes rebirth less likely. ^{ch. 1789}

Fairy Zi Wei reports no problem with benevolence Gu and that she has successfully activated the killer move several times. Once she uses the move, the people she looks at during the process experience equivalent changes to their conditions, matching the name. In their worked example, if she sees Fang Yuan’s rebirth and also looks at Duke Long, then when Fang Yuan self-detonates through Spring Autumn Success and sends his memories back, Duke Long receives the same treatment and his memories also return to his former self. Duke Long had proposed the move against Spring Autumn Cicada after he woke and understood the situation; Fairy Zi Wei still cannot explain why, if Fang Yuan has already rebirthed, no one on Heavenly Court’s side holds prior-life memories. Earlier speculation blamed a failure to borrow benevolence Gu, but they now hold the method, so she asks whether the prior life never gained Benevolent Equality or whether something stopped her from using it on him. Duke Long adds that she may have used it successfully while looking at Fang Yuan alone, or that the other person she looked at was not a Gu Immortal loyal to Heavenly Court. ^{ch. 1918}

When Fang Yuan’s reverse flow protection seal is about to shatter, Duke Long orders Fairy Zi Wei to use Benevolent Equality quickly. She flies up in an Immortal Gu House with Duke Long, Fang Yuan, Feng Jiu Ge, and others in her sight, reports a successful activation, and is praised, but Spectral Soul has already taken her over through slow soul tampering from earlier soul searches. In her last clear thought she realizes she had not truly used Benevolent Equality even though she believed she had and had told Duke Long so, and she guesses the same false use may have happened in the previous life. ^{ch. 1946}
