Soul foundation is the strength of a cultivator's soul: it eases refining Gu and enslaving beasts, feeds soul-linked killer moves, and decides how hard soul attacks or dream strain hit.
A strong soul foundation makes refining Gu and enslaving beasts much easier. Once the soul is stronger, killer moves that target the soul, such as Mo Wu Tian’s purple eyes, lose their bite. ch. 410
Enslavement and combat
Three things shape an enslavement path Gu Master’s strength: the size of the beast group, the enslavement path Gu worms used together, and the foundation of the soul. With Dang Hun Mountain, Fang Yuan’s soul foundation reaches the same level as three enslavement masters he faces in that stretch. ch. 540 Enslavement and soul path stay related later: to manipulate desolate beasts, an enslavement path Gu Immortal needs a sufficiently strong soul foundation. ch. 1208
Spent by killer moves
Myriad self forms strength path phantoms that carry a trace of Fang Yuan’s soul, so he can move them like extensions of his body. That same link means the killer move expends his soul foundation. ch. 663
Soul suppression works the other way: Qin Bai Sheng uses his own soul’s foundation to suppress enemies. The gap in soul foundation makes that immortal killer move hit with immense effect. ch. 880
Raising the foundation
Luo Po Valley refines the soul; Dang Hun Mountain strengthens it. Quantitative and qualitative change together advance the soul’s foundation at a tremendous pace. Moving back and forth between those two sites raises Fang Yuan’s soul foundation sharply, clears the burden of enslaving a Gu Immortal, and helps when refining an Immortal Gu House. ch. 997
Depth and limits
A soul foundation can be spoken of against the man soul scale. One extreme example is a soul so condensed it surpasses a hundred million man soul and can interfere with the material world as if solid. ch. 1011 Dream realm exploration also taxes the soul: with a deep soul foundation, Fang Yuan can fall into the water many times in one entry before his soul reaches its limit. ch. 1247
