Investigative Gu

Investigative Gu are Gu worms used to scout, sense, and watch. They sit with attack, defense, movement, storage, and healing among the six common classifications Fang Yuan tracks as recon.

Earth Communication Ear Grass is a rank two grass Gu used to scout. Its range of about three hundred paces sits among the best of rank two investigative Gu worms, and narration places it as comparable with many rank three investigative Gu worms.^{ch. 128} Before the wolf tide, Fang Yuan judges that hunting alone needs a scouting Gu worm or a movement-type Gu, otherwise he will fall to the pack.^{ch. 122}

Six classifications

Among the six classifications Fang Yuan tracks for his own set, attack and defense, movement, storage, and recon sit beside healing. Earth Communication Ear Grass fills the recon slot in that accounting.^{ch. 161}

Immortal scouting stock

Without investigative killer moves, Gu Immortals can still prepare large numbers of investigative Gu worms of all paths to enhance vision and hearing, sense tremors, smell odd odors, and spread divine sense across their surroundings.^{ch. 714}

Watch and warn

A rank five investigative Gu can hover and scan an area so Gu Immortals keep watch on paths they have already walked. After immortality, mortal Gu of this kind are plentiful enough to mark ground, warn the owner, and feed continuous scanning.^{ch. 718} Clusters of investigative Gu left around desolate beast corpses can themselves become a trail for later scavengers who seal or deceive those Gu rather than fight them openly.^{ch. 720}
