On a nameless hill outside Ge tribe’s turtleback wolf fight in Northern Plains, Man tribesmen conceal themselves and watch through investigative Gu. He stands among them looking strikingly like tribe leader Man Tu, Man Tu’s eldest son at rank three middle stage. He is not yet true young tribe leader; elder Man Hao still flatters him with that title as a supporter’s expectation. Man Hong accepts the address, says his father gave him this important task so he might become young tribe leader on return, and regrets that Man Duo did not come so he could use the chance to remove that rival. ch. 451

Watching the turtleback battle
He mocks Ge tribe for channeling a canal, expects heavy losses even if they resist over thirty thousand turtleback wolves, and smiles as Ge tribe Gu Masters die under hundred wolf kings. Through investigative Gu he sees a wolf enslavement Gu take a hundred wolf king, asks whether the master is Wolf King Chang Shan Yin, and hears Man Hao confirm it. He recalls that his father named Chang Shan Yin the greatest uncertainty and wants to see that ability himself. ch. 451
Wolf expansion and ambitions
As Fang Yuan under that name subdues hundred wolf kings, Man Hong admits the outsider has some skill while his expression sinks. ch. 452 When the myriad wolf king first strikes, his eyes brighten, then dim when that king stays at the rear. When Fang Yuan’s wolf howl signals a countercharge, Man Hong and Man Hao both turn grave. ch. 453 Outside the field he loses color as Fang Yuan’s wolf group expands and overturns the crisis. Watching Fang Yuan exhaust the myriad wolf king with careful wolf command, he and Man Hao show astonishment at northern plains top-tier wolf manipulation. He then looks ashen and states that with this person present, annexing Ge tribe is easier said than done; the battle has dispelled his ambitions. ch. 454
