Near Han village, a small natural grassland holds sand and sharp red dagger grass that local children cut with sickles for family pay. The blades stab deep for meager water; the children wear leather gloves, and one bare handed child grinds cut grass at a quern-stone into paste for fat sand scorpions kept as the household’s main assets. ^{ch. 674} Only one rank two Gu Master is stationed there to look after the village. ^{ch. 676}
