Chapter 933

Fang Yuan slips free of the chaos and returns to the octopuses’ place, where about half remain, and lures those away too. Reinforcements arrive, another ancient octopus and ten more desolate beast octopuses, and Dragon Commander Ye Cha cries out in bitterness. The group has no choice but to save Xing Xiang Zi first. ^{ch. 933}

Dragon Commander Ye Cha shouts for him to hold on. He spends immortal essence without restraint. Bound by Blazing Heaven Demoness’s authority, the zombies endure as the mouth earthworm lashes in a frenzy while they wear it down from afar. Alone it would lose to the group, but the octopuses, greatest in number, turn it into a chaotic three way battle. ^{ch. 933}

Landlord Lei Yu shouts for Xing Xiang Zi to survive, breaking into cold sweat despite his own resentment of him. Fang Yuan’s safety weighs on the whole escort as a huge issue. Meanwhile Fang Yuan slips into the octopuses’ territory on the cliff walls, finding a huge protrusion hollowed into a group’s home. He sneaks through its very big entrance, a thick oil smell greeting him in the dark, which his rich investigative methods pierce. ^{ch. 933}

The walls are coated in thick, sticky black oil from the octopuses’ own hunting habit, rooted through with weeds and needle wood. Wiping it releases dozens of tiny worms that dart out and back in. Among the oil’s massive insect life, Fang Yuan senses at least four wild Gu worms, two earth path, one dark path, one water path, all mortal grade. He wonders whether Dragon Commander Ye Cha’s dead aperture mimics this environment, but sets the question aside. ^{ch. 933}

Minutes later he silently kills a fierce beast, muffling the sound with his Gu worms. Deeper in, the oil runs seven or eight inches thick, and black stomach hounds in the crevices feed on meat and bones the octopuses leave behind. Turning into one to blend in, Fang Yuan finds their territorial sense fiercer than the octopuses’ and is fiercely attacked, though human form would have served better. He reaches the cave’s lower half with still no sign of the inheritance’s clues. ^{ch. 933}

Fang Yuan pushes through the forking, interconnected paths, bypassing guarding octopuses to save time, wary of waking the ancient octopus king. He cannot openly use Fixed Immortal Travel in Dark Flow Giant City, where it would expose him as the one who toppled Eighty-Eight True Yang Building. With about fifteen minutes in hand and most of it already spent for no gain, he raises his own speed. If the others do not find him inside the earthworm, he cannot explain it. ^{ch. 933}

At the cave’s deepest point he finds the yaksha octopus king asleep. Its snores are loud as thunder. He senses the aura of a wild Immortal Gu inside it, grown from one of its own Gu worms over its long lifetime as the cave’s oldest creature. His joy turns to relief he had not lured the king out earlier, since its wild Immortal Gu would have sent the escort into a frenzy. It occurs to him this may be how Northern Plains Zombie Alliance found the inheritance in his previous life. ^{ch. 933}

He decides to risk it, creeping close as a black stomach hound; the king’s topaz pupils open on him, Fang Yuan senses nothing, and he passes behind it as though normal. The king shuts its eyes and sleeps on. Behind it he finds a pile of white bones and rotting meat, with dao marks beneath them exposing traces of a Gu formation. Unraveling them costs immortal essence fast; the giant space path Gu formation shows only a flaw from long disrepair, and the treasure he seeks is very possibly held inside it. But the disturbance from unraveling further would be huge. ^{ch. 933}

He takes a bone and retreats. He attacks a nearby octopus to draw its kin into a diversion. Retreating to the exit, he activates Fixed Immortal Travel and teleports to the cave’s deepest point in three breaths. The octopus king is still near the exit as he races to unravel the formation, while the octopuses he provoked find no enemies, calm down, and drift back inside. Unraveling it, he feels this Gu formation’s depth and complexity, and deducing it completely would take months. ^{ch. 933}
