Chapter 808

Fang Yuan smiles at Chang Fan’s confidence, though the soul is already his captive, and begins soul searching, taking his true eight-armed zombie form as Dang Hun palace darkens. One claw closes on the soul, and a formless force wracks it with pain. He pulls back having plundered much information, but nothing important. ^{ch. 808}

Duller and looser but satisfied, Chang Fan’s soul resonates that he remodeled his immortal soul through soul path. A mortal-level search, he says, cannot take what it wants. Without a body to sustain it, he warns, further searching only consumes his soul, letting him conceal the inheritance and the possession technique until it disappears completely. He offers a deal instead: his knowledge for help finding a mortal Gu Master to possess and revive in. He offers an oath on mountain pledge Gu, which Fang Yuan should trust after fighting alongside Fairy Li Shan. ^{ch. 808}

Fang Yuan calls him worthy of his reputation for still scheming. His own soul strengthening method, he says, gives him all the time he needs. Chang Fan answers that the same remodeling means only immortal healing can nourish his soul now. Fang Yuan’s smile fades, and he takes out airsac Gu. Expecting nothing from a mere mortal Gu, Chang Fan is instead partly healed once Fang Yuan crushes it with a guts Gu sealed inside. ^{ch. 808}

Astonished, he demands how a mortal Gu could heal an immortal soul. Fang Yuan tells him to guess. Chang Fan reasons it must be Dang Hun mountain’s guts Gu, the airsac Gu likely bought from treasure yellow heaven. Fang Yuan says he is only half right: he created the airsac Gu, and the guts Gu trade is his. Realizing whose hands he is in, Chang Fan’s soul sinks into despairing silence. ^{ch. 808}

Fang Yuan heals him completely and resumes searching. Repeated attempts finally draw out valuable information on Jade Pool blessed land’s resources. Its three breeding grounds put regretful spiders second to large cave toads, three times as numerous and left uncollected to induce an immortal level large cave toad Gu. A far-east pool holds a desolate beast horse, and a jellyfish-guarded salt bed makes profound grey salt. After the land’s one dark night in four, hidden jade and canine pools also yield desolate jade and moon fangs. Chang Fan, as first supreme elder, also names further creatures and materials in the blessed land. ^{ch. 808}

Fang Yuan is moved enough to want a plundering trip, but restrains himself: Jade Pool was already wracked by dozens of righteous and demonic Gu Immortals fighting over it when he passed earlier that evening. His essence spent, his identity needing concealment, Fairy Li Shan and Hei Lou Lan off chasing Miniscule Mountain, and Old Lord Can Yang suspicious, he judges it wiser to leave. He reads the reveal as Chang Fan’s attempt to lure him into that danger. ^{ch. 808}

His position stays precarious. He caused Eighty-Eight True Yang Building’s collapse, and his false identity Sha Huang was exposed after the auction. Dragon Commander Ye Cha, investigating Sha Huang after losses to Feng Jiu Ge’s group, keeps him from Zombie Alliance. Seizing the inheritance leaves clues, a risk he judges necessary, since passive waiting guarantees exposure. He resolves to keep seizing opportunities, expecting the new inheritance to guard against wisdom path deduction and greatly delay his exposure. ^{ch. 808}

He rests, since soul searching also strains the searcher’s soul in a way guts Gu cannot heal, then resumes. Chang Fan, chilled that Jade Pool failed to lure him away, resists harder still. Fang Yuan tries again and again with patience. He eventually pries loose the memory of Chang Fan remodeling the immemorial ruin bat’s corpse, gaining both the method of enslaving phantom beasts and the secret of turning an ordinary Gu formation into a phantom one, information of enormous value either way. ^{ch. 808}
