Sudden Change, Regret Gu
Xia Lin becomes saintess at the end of the Sea God Ceremony, a result completely unexpected by anyone. Days later, she wonders when Master Chu, unseen since the ceremony, will return. Her elder sister Zhao Lu comes to visit, and Xia Lin has her brought in with a sigh. Zhao Lu is her sister only in name, but after Fang Yuan tampered with Zhao Lu’s memories, she does not doubt Xia Lin’s identity. Zhao Lu asks whether Xia Lin has reconsidered, and Xia Lin refuses, promising not to collaborate with other forces either. ch. 1674
Zhao Lu, narrowly beaten by Su Yi, resents Xia Lin for snatching the position, yet the force behind her still sends her to rope Xia Lin in. Fang Yuan had told Xia Lin not to agree to any person or political force. Zhao Lu warns that Xia Lin will die without that force’s support. She explains that every saintess must travel to Demon Suppression Regret Crying Sea, where three days and three nights of singing are meant to eliminate its demonic aura. The task is extremely dangerous with a very low survival rate; many saintesses have died there, and some who came back alive turned crazy. Demon Suppression Regret Crying Sea is the most dangerous sea area the Sacred Court controls, an absolute forbidden area. ch. 1674
According to legends, Paradise Earth Immortal Venerable, too benevolent to kill a peerless demonic Gu Immortal, sealed him in that sea to repent, so crying sounds often rise from it. The demon’s sins are too heavy and his nature too strong, so demonic aura accumulates, makes living creatures stronger, ferocious and crueler, and infects the sea until its area expands. Xia Lin asks whether going in alone without Zhao Lu’s help is almost like seeking death. Zhao Lu answers that it is not almost, but definitely. Xia Lin still refuses, even if it costs her life, because of her agreement with Fang Yuan, and Zhao Lu, furious, wishes her good luck. ch. 1674
In front of Merit Obelisk, Fang Yuan laughs with bright eyes as a new task appears: help the new saintess complete her most important mission. He has already learned that the saintess mission is to purify Demon Suppression Regret Crying Sea. Only such a task lets him enter that sea, and he was unsure it would appear, so he supported a saintess of low strength with no one to rely on, who would need outsiders to complete her mission. His plan to hasten the task’s appearance worked perfectly. He accepts at once and is teleported to Sacred City. ch. 1674
Several days later, Xia Lin stands on a giant tortoise advancing slowly towards that sea, with Fang Yuan behind her. A gale carries crying sounds of regret over provoking Paradise Earth Immortal Venerable and killing many people, louder as the tortoise nears the sea. Xia Lin jolts and turns pale. Fang Yuan calms her and the tortoise with wisdom path methods. Fang Yuan feels the large immortal formation and is almost certain that regret Gu is here. Regret Gu suppresses the giant demon and is not part of Paradise Earth’s true inheritance, yet he will risk taking it. ch. 1674
He investigates with all his strength until the demon suppression regret crying formation appears in his mind, and he turns pale. The formation is as vast as the sky, and even he would need at least dozens of years to comprehend all its profundities. From clues and arrangements he determines that regret Gu is hidden somewhere in the center of the sea area. Weighing how to take it without a backlash, he considers borrowing the suppressed demon’s strength, with no pity for the beings a released demon might harm. Then the formation suddenly activates, regret Gu shoots straight at him, and an extremely boundless force presses on his body. Fang Yuan disappears, leaving this grotto-heaven of Paradise Earth. ch. 1674
