Freedom Gu appears in The Legends of Ren Zu when feathermen die. Cognition Gu calls those wild freedom Gu uncatchable.
In a Ren Zu stretch set in green heaven, Ren Zu fails to force feathermen to rescue his daughter. After he traps them with shelter and food, then withholds both, most of the feathermen die. He bargains again with the survivors, who still refuse, and eventually they all die. ch. 870
Appearance
Many small creatures like tiny specks of light, shining with all kinds of colors. ch. 870
Effect
From those corpses, small shining creatures of many colors fly out. Ren Zu tries to grab them and fails. Cognition Gu tells him wild freedom Gu cannot be caught, and that these feathermen chased freedom from birth but found it only in death. ch. 870
Second Ren Zu telling
In a later Ren Zu telling, wild freedom Gu leave living feathermen and take love Gu. ch. 1230
In that telling, shining worms fly out of the feathermen and are named wild freedom Gu. They fuse into a gigantic freedom Gu that takes Ren Zu’s love Gu and says love is free from then on. Self Gu tries to snatch love Gu back, fails to overpower freedom Gu, and only takes a bite of love Gu. ch. 1230

Third Ren Zu telling
In this telling, freedom Gu flies to Ren Zu of its own accord, not for his sake, since it says he once used attitude Gu to bully it, love to bind it, and wealth to bribe it, but because it is drawn to the cognition Gu on him. Whoever holds it can also sense happiness Gu’s location. Ren Zu refuses to let go even as fate Gu’s spider silk binds and cuts into him, but once the silk eases and cognition Gu withdraws, he opens his hands in a panic to check on it, and it flies free the instant a gap appears. ch. 1954
