Responsibility Gu

Freedom Gu, seized against its will, warns Ren Zu it will never serve him and demands he let it go. The moment he grips tighter instead, responsibility Gu flies over and presses down on his shoulder, and its weight nearly bends him double. Cognition Gu tells him that freedom and responsibility coexist, so obtaining freedom means shouldering responsibility, if only for himself. Ren Zu grits his teeth and endures as fate Gu’s spider silk pierces him, and he faints from the pain. When he wakes, the silk has slackened and responsibility Gu is no longer pressing on him, though by then he has also lost his sense of freedom Gu, and he opens his hands in panic and lets it escape. ^{ch. 1954}
