Eternal Gu is named in The Legends of Ren Zu as the Gu hairy men try to refine with Verdant Great Sun as a human catalyst.
In that legend, savage people with hair all over their bodies bind Verdant Great Sun and carry him toward a cauldron over a bonfire. They say they are refining eternal Gu and lacked a human catalyst, and that heaven has sent them Verdant Great Sun. ch. 357
Refinement attempt
They call human the spirit of all living beings and Ren Zu the spirit ancestor, and they treat Verdant Great Sun, born from Ren Zu’s left eye, as having ample spiritual energy for the work. One speaker says that throwing him into the cauldron will let them obtain eternal Gu and live for eternity. A voice in Verdant Great Sun’s mind names those captors as hairy men, loved by the world, with innate talent in refining Gu worms. ch. 357
Hairy men keep adding materials and Gu worms, including Vanity Gu. After vanity Gu bursts into a formless poisonous wind, Verdant Great Sun goads the hairy men into burning themselves and escapes the cauldron, so the attempt does not finish in the telling. ch. 357
Repeated legend account
Narration again places hairy men as the variant men most skilled at refining Gu. According to those records, in the immemorial era they started to refine Gu and tied up Ren Zu’s first son Verdant Great Sun in an attempt to use him to refine eternal Gu. ch. 486
Rank ten rumor
Fang Yuan has heard rumors of only two rank ten Immortal Gu. One is destiny Gu. The other is eternal Gu, and that legend is said to originate from The Legends of Ren Zu. ch. 2140
