Fang Yuan Undergoes Tribulation (4/5)
Fang Yuan looks up bitterly: his first calamity carries many desolate beast snow monsters, and now an ancient ruin bat, its shadow looming over him. The blizzard weakens at once. The snow monsters stop their cries to look up at the beast. Luck path killer moves before he left Lang Ya blessed land, and dog shit luck Immortal Gu used without pause since the tribulation began, should already have cut the calamity’s might, yet Fang Yuan judges it incredibly powerful still. ch. 1056
The bat crashes, its aura compressing the air into crushing pressure, and Fang Yuan meets it with his third sword path killer move, Triple Layered Sword Wave. Built from rank seven wave sword Immortal Gu and water path Immortal Gu borrowed from Lang Ya land spirit, three silvery white waves rise against gravity and crash into the bat, each stronger than the last, wiping the blizzard and shattering the air. The bat smashes through the first wave without a sound. But the second leaves deep sword marks and forces a screech. ch. 1056
Unlike an ordinary ruin bat, which retreats from any danger to its life, this one, formed by the calamity, charges on despite its wounds. Its space path power distorts the space around Fang Yuan, so a step or two crosses several hundred and sword escape Immortal Gu has little effect. Killing it outright is his only option. The third and mightiest wave, ten meters tall, crashes into the bat with such force that even Fang Yuan, its caster, feels a chill, striking the same wounds and piercing clean through its back. Flesh and blood fall from its body, the bat shrinking as its crushing pressure lifts and it crashes to the ground, heavily injured. The space power restricting Fang Yuan vanishes with it. ch. 1056
Fang Yuan is joyous at the kill, but his expression suddenly changes. A huge amount of true meaning floods his mind, far more than all his earlier gains together, scattering his state of mind. Fang Yuan loses himself, feeling as though he were the ruin bat, living and dying, before jolting back to awareness. Only his wisdom path foundation and a defensive wisdom path Immortal Gu, borrowed from Lang Ya land spirit, save his consciousness from an intake that could destroy it. ch. 1056
Fang Yuan has little immortal essence left. But the ruin bat is dead, its corpse breaking into snow after landing. A hundred desolate beast snow monsters remain, with countless small ones, and seventy-foot ancient desolate beasts appearing. Clearing them will mean borrowing immortal essence stones from Lang Ya land spirit again, despite his debt repaid. The weakened blizzard rises again, and two more ancient ruin bats start forming inside it. ch. 1056
Fang Yuan attacks first: two ruin bats would be more than he could survive, and with the calamity’s power declining, he means to strike before they form. A new blizzard interrupts him, hurling huge snowballs from twenty-eight ancient snow monsters, more than before. His quasi grandmaster flying attainment lets him dodge in time. With the bats forming and the snowballs blocking his advance, Fang Yuan judges he will fail this tribulation for sure. ch. 1056
Elsewhere on the icy plain, a Gu Master undergoes ascension as frost lightning closes in, but his master, Chu Du, blocks the attack effortlessly. Chu Du explains that ascending Gu Masters mingle with heaven’s will, a natural inspiration that answers their questions, but here strength path Gu Masters draw Reckless Savage’s true meaning instead, and their strength path and transformation path attainment rise sharply. The stronger the tribulation, the more of that true meaning gathers, and he nurtures every disciple to take it at their ascension and raise his own strength path attainment. A distant sound interrupts him. Space cracks like a broken mirror, revealing Fang Yuan’s battle with the ruin bats inside his immortal aperture. Chu Du’s body shakes and his eyes shine at once. ch. 1056
