A phantom aperture is a substitute immortal aperture used when a Gu Immortal's true aperture has been given up or otherwise replaced, for storing immortal essence and Gu worms.
Any rank eight Gu Immortal who joins Heavenly Court must first contribute their immortal aperture and combine it into Heavenly Court’s grotto-heaven. When they go outside Heavenly Court, they are given a mystical phantom aperture for storing immortal essence and Gu worms. ch. 1070
That method is among Heavenly Court’s deepest secrets and is the work of Primordial Origin Immortal Venerable. After rank eight Gu Immortals fuse their immortal apertures into Heavenly Court’s grotto-heaven, they are free from tribulations, and they can also sleep and slow the loss of their lifespan. ch. 1070
Travel without tribulations
Sixth Hair contrasts ordinary regional travel with Heavenly Court practice: most Gu Immortals avoid crossing regions because calamities and tribulations become unpredictable away from home, while Heavenly Court Gu Immortals give their immortal apertures to Heavenly Court, have no calamities and tribulations, go outside using a phantom aperture, and have the method to sleep while preserving their lifespan. ch. 1076
Shadow Sect gift
Ying Wu Xie tells Bai Ning Bing that the phantom aperture Shadow Sect gave can suppress the transformation path dao marks in Bai Ning Bing, revert Bai Ning Bing to a male body, and allow Bai Ning Bing to become a false immortal who owns green grape immortal essence and can refine and use Immortal Gu. Ying Wu Xie also mocks the idea of using that same phantom aperture to fight him. ch. 1166

Zhao Lian Yun has a phantom aperture. She has refined immortal essence stones before and accumulated some immortal essence, and she later senses love Gu inside that phantom aperture emit a profound aura on its own. ch. 1245
