Earthly Calamity

Every earthly calamity increases in intensity compared to the previous one. It is a cruel trial that decides the life and death of Gu Immortals and their blessed land. Types include desolate beast calamities, in which one or more desolate beasts appear and charge the blessed land’s central control area. If they are not exterminated in time, even a large blessed land can be destroyed. ^{ch. 416}

Blessed land fortune draws calamities and tribulations that try to wear that fortune down. The better a blessed land is managed, the stronger the calamities and tribulations it faces. Ownerless blessed lands on the verge of collapse can have earthly calamities as weak as a drizzle. ^{ch. 460} Heaven pays attention to balance: deeper foundation and greater fortune make heavenly tribulations or earthly calamities stronger and more likely to target that fortune, though the rule is probability rather than absolute law. ^{ch. 826}

Gu Immortals at rank six experience an earthly calamity every ten years and a heavenly tribulation every one hundred years. After three hundred years, thirty earthly calamities and three heavenly tribulations, they can advance to rank seven. Earthly calamities are weaker than heavenly tribulations. Each calamity and tribulation is a difficult test filled with danger and opportunity, and newly added dao marks reform the blessed land so it can produce more valuable resources. ^{ch. 826} Gu Immortals at rank seven still face an earthly calamity every ten years, while rank eight Gu Immortals no longer experience earthly calamities. ^{ch. 1007}
