Myriad Tribulation

Earthly calamities, heavenly tribulations, grand tribulations, and myriad tribulations are ranked by increasing strength. The cultivation world also calls them apocalyptic myriad tribulations. Surviving one is incredible glory that draws admiration across the Gu Immortal world. In the long history of humanity, only ten people have passed three myriad tribulations: the ten venerables. Sword Immortal Bo Qing passed two and was favored to become a sword path Immortal Venerable; he failed once on the third, barely survived, and died when he tried again. Gu Immortals at rank eight face a heavenly tribulation every ten years, a grand tribulation every fifty years, and a myriad tribulation every one hundred years. After three myriad tribulations, they would become rank nine Gu Immortals. ^{ch. 1007}

Passing a myriad tribulation does not guarantee a rise in dao marks. Thousand Transformations Ancestor passes his first myriad tribulation only because of the Immortal Gu House that Reckless Savage Demon Venerable left behind, and half a month later he uses cutting flesh transformation to shed the time path dao marks the tribulation left in his body. Transformation path dao marks go with them, so he counts a small loss after the tribulation instead of any growth. ^{ch. 1398}

On average, an ordinary grand tribulation gives about seven thousand dao marks, while an ordinary myriad tribulation gives about eighty thousand. ^{ch. 2071}

After becoming rank nine, calamities and tribulations become even more terrifying. Venerables face a grand tribulation every ten years, a myriad tribulation every fifty years, and a chaotic disaster every one hundred years. ^{ch. 2209 ch. 2215} The chaotic disaster originates from chaos outside the world boundary and is a separate tribulation type from myriad tribulations. ^{ch. 2209} Unless they cultivate paths such as dream path or pill path, grand tribulations and myriad tribulations are no threat to Fang Yuan at venerable level; he is wary of chaotic disasters every one hundred years. ^{ch. 2215} Chaotic disaster is covered on chaotic disaster.
