Clansmen are still more reliable
Surrounded on a remote mountainside by a dozen full grown, healthy lightning wolves rather than the crippled ones he is used to, Fang Yuan fights on the offensive despite being encircled, cutting one wolf clean in half with a moonblade and battering others to death with fists and kicks carried by the White Jade Gu’s defense and the strength of two boars. With his C grade aptitude and rank two middle stage cultivation leaving his primeval essence under fifty percent while several wolves still stand, he vanishes with the Stealth Scales Gu and hides nearby, absorbing primeval stones to recover while the pack, sharp eyed but poor of smell, searches blindly for him. ch. 130
Once his essence recovers to thirty percent, the pack withdraws unwillingly, and Fang Yuan drops his concealment, lets the wolves charge back at him, breaks one wolf’s back with a single punch, and kills four more before the rest lose their fighting spirit and flee too fast for him to chase. Wary of drawing attention, he checks the area is clear with the Earth Communication Ear Grass before digging out the corpses’ eyeballs, and turns in only part of the haul while keeping the rest hidden to avoid suspicion, then clears two more wolf packs the same way. ch. 130
As thickening clouds and rising wind carry the howls of a great many lightning wolves, Fang Yuan pales, recognizing from his previous life’s memory that this is the day the true wolf tide breaks, and finding no wolves closing in yet on another check with the Earth Communication Ear Grass, he judges he still has enough of a lead to reach the village and runs for it at full speed. Hundreds of meters on, he passes a five person Gu Master group that includes his former academy classmate Gu Yue Peng, whom Fang Yuan had once bullied and extorted, and brushes past Peng’s greeting without a word. ch. 130
As the group presses on under its leader’s order to hunt at least fifty more lightning wolves for the merit board, Peng consoles himself with his group’s rank of seventy fifth against what he believes is Fang Yuan’s rank beyond two hundred, and mocks Fang Yuan in his own mind as a friendless fool who never recruited a single group member and only made group leader through luck against the rank five River Swallowing Toad. The sky darkens further and the group meets no wolves at all along the way, until their scout leader suddenly pales and orders a run; a wave of howling reveals more than a thousand lightning wolves closing from behind, and as the group scatters, Peng falls behind, is knocked down by a bold lightning wolf twice the size of a normal one, and has his head gnawed off in a single bite, while the pack, said to include three myriad beast king level thunder crown wolves along with hundred beast king level bold lightning wolves and thousand beast king level frenzy lightning wolves, pours past him as the rain finally breaks and the true wolf tide begins. ch. 130
