Bold lightning wolves, hundred beast kings, are as large as a calf and strong like bulls, and a bold lightning wolf can send a thin long blue lightning current that punches a hole through a village wall. Frenzy lightning wolves, thousand beast kings, are each as large as an elephant. ^{ch. 149}

Small beast tide attack

On Qing Mao Mountain, during a small beast tide sortie around a wild boar king, Gu Masters name a lightning wolf pack when blue eyes gather in the dark and the wolves appear early for the expected wolf tide season. One lightning wolf is not treated as decisive, but a pack is. Lightning wolves have high durability and endurance, and they are most proficient at chasing. ^{ch. 95}

Clan reinforcements later clear the scene. The wolves that formed that small horde are old or injured animals expelled from a growing pack so the wolf king can protect young and healthy lightning wolves and allocate resources. The small beast tide is only a prelude. A year later, tens of thousands of lightning wolves are expected to charge the village under a lightning wolf king. ^{ch. 97}
