Thunder boar strength is the upgrade Fang Yuan makes of his boar strength, turning the boar phantom into a lightning boar phantom.
In a cave on San Cha mountain, a Gu fusion reaches its critical stage, and Fang Yuan feeds the churning multicoloured paste primeval stones, then a thunderclap Gu. Lightning flickers through the paste, and he activates all-out effort Gu and strength qi Gu. The boar phantom adheres to the formless strength qi and flies into the paste, and lightning bursts across the whole cave. The new boar phantom is twice the original size, with tusks like an elephant’s and white fur. The fur along its back is thick and long, stands in rows pointing at the sky, and has lightning curled on it. The text calls it a lightning boar phantom. ch. 353
He judges that thunder boar is equal to dragon-elephant, Biao and mastiff. By morning he has upgraded boar strength and crocodile strength to thunder boar strength and rock crocodile strength, and his battle strength is up by at least thirty percent. ch. 353
Phantom in the pursuit
While Fang Yuan chases Tie Ba Xiu through the air, beast phantoms attack one after another, and a destroyed one is replaced at once. The thunder boar and rock crocodile phantoms appear only now and then. Those two can threaten Tie Ruo Nan. ch. 363
Strength qi and rank
Against Century Boy, a trace of strength qi shoots from Fang Yuan’s shoulder, and the thunder boar phantom enters it, turns solid and charges. It smashes rocks and mounds along its way. A destroyed solid phantom turns back into a trace of strength qi, and activating strength qi Gu again brings it back as good as new. Late in the fight the thunder boar, rock crocodile and kunlun bull phantoms all appear at once. ch. 368
The narration calls these three rank four phantoms and says Fang Yuan’s rank three all-out effort Gu cannot summon them at will. The text does not state a rank for thunder boar strength itself. ch. 368
