Supreme grandmaster is the top step of the attainment ladder from ordinary to supreme grandmaster. It marks pioneering mysteries of a path that do not yet exist in the world.
Realm on a path climbs a fixed ladder from ordinary to supreme grandmaster. Supreme grandmaster is the final step on that ladder, above quasi-supreme grandmaster. ch. 687 It is also the highest of the five main levels: ordinary, master, grandmaster, great grandmaster, and supreme grandmaster. ch. 810
Refinement path Three Olds
Refinement path supreme grandmasters across human history number only three: Long Hair Ancestor, Old Eccentric Tian Nan, and Old Immortal Kong Jue. ch. 687
Scarcity
The rarity of supreme grandmasters needs little explanation. In refinement path, only three appear across history, and among them Long Hair Ancestor is a hairy man. ch. 1326
Beyond the world
Great grandmaster digs out profundities of a path that already exist in the world. Supreme grandmaster innovates beyond that: obtaining mysteries of the path that do not even exist in the world, one step ahead of heaven and earth. Reaching it is not only accumulation. Without awe-inspiring talent and natural aptitude, even a Gu Immortal who lived ten thousand years would not reach supreme grandmaster. Narration states that the ten venerables are all supreme grandmasters, and names the three refinement path supreme grandmasters as its non-venerable examples. ch. 1502
Not from dream realms
Supreme grandmaster cannot be obtained with dream realms. Supreme grandmasters need to pioneer by creating something from nothing, while dream realms are legacies left by predecessors, so dream realms stop at great grandmaster. ch. 1502
Venerable main path
It is publicly recognized that every rank nine venerable’s main path is at supreme grandmaster. Fang Yuan recalls Purple Mountain True Monarch’s cultivation experience as placing grandmaster at imitation of other paths, great grandmaster at use of natural dao marks, and supreme grandmaster at regeneration of dao marks and even self-sustenance beyond immortal essence restriction. ch. 1408
Surpassing world limits
Ghostly concealment does not expend immortal essence and operates on its own. That is treated as the ability of a theft path supreme grandmaster, and only supreme grandmasters can surpass the limits and restrictions of this world to a certain extent. ch. 1524
