A second aperture is an extra aperture beyond the one Gu Masters open at awakening. It holds more primeval essence, recovers essence faster, and can carry a second Gu set.
A Gu Master ordinarily has only one aperture from birth. Gaining a second aperture is treated as an act that defies that limit. ch. 378 With A grade ninety percent aptitude, Fang Yuan reckons a second aperture would mean a hundred and eighty percent primeval essence, double primeval essence recovery speed, and a second set of Gu worms, sharply raising battle strength among the same rank. ch. 377
Formed in the chest
When Second Aperture Gu takes effect, a bean-sized green light is rejected by the navel aperture, hops to the chest, and explodes into a new aperture that looks both real and virtual. Lang Ya land spirit states that a second aperture gives great advantages to cultivators, and still greater advantage after they become Gu Immortals, while a third aperture would need a whole new recipe rather than the same Gu. ch. 490
