Realm on a path climbs a fixed ladder from ordinary to supreme grandmaster. Quasi-grandmaster is the quasi step between master and grandmaster. It is not one of the five main levels (ordinary, master, grandmaster, great grandmaster, and supreme grandmaster); those main levels are the rungs the quasi steps sit between. ch. 687 ch. 1326
One step that stays far
Fang Yuan as a refinement path quasi-grandmaster is one step away from grandmaster, but that one step is very far away and needs great accumulation to break through. His previous-life and current-life accumulations forced refinement path from master up to this quasi step, and raising it further stays hard when refinement is only a side path. ch. 838

Rank six elites
Those who possess quasi-grandmaster attainment are often elites among rank six Gu Immortals. Above them, grandmaster is rarer still and mostly held by rank seven Gu Immortals after long accumulation. ch. 1326
Near grandmaster in practice
Chi Shang as a formation path grandmaster and Fang Yuan as a formation path quasi-grandmaster are close enough that formation answers can still be adjusted between them. If the gap were too high, modification would be impossible. ch. 1328
