Ni Jian is a teenage Ni clan Gu Master of Rotten Mud Mountain who prefers sword path over the clan's earth path specialty and is raised by his grandfather Ni Kun.
At the back of Rotten Mud Mountain he fights a mature brown bear while his grandfather watches. He is fifteen or sixteen, uses movement Gu and sword qi Gu, and recognizes muddy Gu when Ni Kun tosses it to him. After trapping the bear he says Ni Kun staged the fight to push him from sword path toward Ni clan’s earth path specialty, and he answers that he likes sword qi and finds earth path lame. ch. 1034

He is only five and a half feet tall. His eyes shine with vigor, and he faces the bear without fear. ch. 1034
Young clan leader
Qi Zai’s first mudman reconstruction from Rotten Mud Mountain grudge qi names itself Ni Jian before Qi Zai mishears and destroys it. ch. 1036 Rebuilt again, the mudman answers clearly as Ni Jian, young clan leader of the village and grandson of the Ni clan leader. He lost his parents young, was raised by his grandfather, and after the village slaughter his soul is taken while deep grudge remains. ch. 1037
Mudman form
Qi Zai expands a mud ball into Ni Jian’s shape. Narration places him as originally only a rank two Gu Master who, after dying to the beast group, was revived as a mudman from a mud monster corpse, with strength risen to desolate beast level matching ordinary rank six Gu Immortals. He charges Fang Yuan in hatred for forcing his grandfather’s death and slaughtering the clan, but lacks battle experience and is slowed by frost palms. ch. 1040
Mudman found and restored
Much later Feng Tian Yu reports finding the mudman Ni Jian, learning the village slaughter story by asking one question at a time, and noting near-immortal strength that has weakened over time. ch. 2126 He raises the mud monster by feeding mud Gu materials and brings it to Rotten Mud Mountain, where Ni Jian recovers strength only by increasing earth path dao marks. ch. 2128 ch. 2129
