Sacred Feather City's Shocking Change
The feathermen call their floating city Sacred Feather City; outsiders call it the city in the sky. After the featherman king’s death, custom calls for a new king chosen through battles among candidates already acknowledged by most of the city. Feathermen favor a compassionate hero over a fierce ruler, so contenders need a reputation for good deeds and immense contributions. Three featherman Gu Immortal elders stand ready to control a bad king, though few have ever been chosen. Tens of thousands gather at the battle arena to watch the deciding match. ch. 864
Prince Dan Yu declares he will defend the honor of the Dan surname. Flying at rank five, he sends his opponent flying again and again with long-range Gu worm attacks. Yu Fei sprints along the ground and rolls to evade, covered in dirt. Yu Fei cannot strike back. ch. 864
Yu Fei suddenly shouts that he is destined to become king, bursts with strength, and launches himself at Dan Yu. Dan Yu retreats in alarm. Mocked for his broken wings, Yu Fei uses inflated balloon, sucking in air until he floats upward. ch. 864
Dan Yu unleashes killer move blade wind strong slash, sending two wind blades. They would have heavily injured or killed Yu Fei, slicing his inflated stomach apart, had they landed. Yu Fei blows out a current of air for thrust, shrinks his body, and dodges both blades, closing the distance before Dan Yu can flee. ch. 864
Coiling tree vines wraps around Dan Yu’s waist, and crane crossing neck turns Yu Fei’s head into a crane’s head that stabs at Dan Yu. Unable to break free, Dan Yu triggers a defensive Gu worm out of reflex, and the stab leaves him unhurt but dizzy. Six-nine great windmill spins them together toward the ground, and Yu Fei pulls free just before impact. Dan Yu alone crashes head first into the arena floor and is knocked unconscious. ch. 864
The arena falls silent, then erupts. The hosting elder announces Yu Fei the new featherman king, and the crowd chants his name. ch. 864
Yu Fei laughs, arms on his waist. Then he grimaces at the pain in his wings. Dan Yu, still unconscious, is dug out of the ground and given swift medical care. ch. 864
Deep in the city, three drowsy featherman Gu Immortals call this king unusual and ambitious for featherman territory, though he should mature. Past kings have brought much life and innovation to the city. Ordinarily it could expect hundreds of peaceful years under him. ch. 864
An explosive boom shakes the entire city, catching the feathermen before they can react. The panicked crowd flies up as Yu Fei crashes and rolls across the ground. The feathermen see a huge crack open in the green sky as figures descend. ch. 864
The three featherman Gu Immortals fly up to face the invaders, sounding the alarm to defend the homeland. Gu Masters assemble at the formation cores to activate the defenses. The city’s long peace has left its defenses lax, and the non-militarized feathermen cannot respond properly. The elders warn the intruders that feathermen love peace but are not powerless, and ask them to leave. ch. 864
Their leader is an old, barefoot man wrapped in white bandages: White Sea Shatuo. He orders the others to attack. Battle erupts between the three featherman Gu Immortals, one rank seven and two rank six, and the invaders, who overpower them. The fighting lasts three days and two nights; one featherman Gu Immortal dies, the other two are wounded, and can only resist through Sacred Feather City itself, a huge Immortal Gu House. ch. 864
