Deserves death without pity
Fang Yuan sits on an azure myriad wolf king above a wolf army of about five hundred thousand, which he has rebuilt by recalling old wolves and recruiting new ones. Hundred, thousand and myriad wolf kings lead it alongside the mutated wolves, travelling in very conspicuous packs. He is truly at the peak of the mortal realm. He was one of five beast kings in the Imperial Court contest, and he is now the current generation’s number one enslavement master of northern plains. He also shows great technique in strength path and is a flying master. He is the revered Wolf King Chang Shan Yin. ch. 571
Mo Yao’s will advises him to give up combining strength and enslavement, calling it a really tall order and an age old problem. She says the two are very distinct, and that Gu Masters rely on the depth of attainment rather than the number of paths. He refuses arrogantly, replying that the problem is old only because he was not yet born, and that his name will go down in history beside Star Constellation, Red Lotus and Paradise Earth. Those three are rank nine venerables, and only ten such venerables have existed. Even Mo Yao’s will is left tongue-tied. ch. 571
Elsewhere, a group of Gu Masters is fighting earth chief beasts near the sacred palace. These beasts are almost extinct in northern plains but live in huge numbers in Imperial Court blessed land, and their eyes, fur, tail and flesh whips are valuable Gu refinement material. The group has hunted them several times before. This time they drew a group of a hundred beasts, but its king is an old thousand beast king that has truly the battle strength of a rank three, which is too much for the group to handle. ch. 571
Their leader Jiang Dong, decisive and experienced, takes some people into the beasts to stall the king while the others slaughter the rest. After an hour they are almost out of primeval essence and fight mostly in close combat. The old king swings its tail and kills one Gu Master outright. Morale falls to rock bottom. With one man down and less than twenty percent of his primeval essence left, Jiang Dong decides that reputation is worth less than his life. He spends the rest on his movement Gu and flees, and the others scatter. ch. 571
The old beast king chases Jiang Dong in particular. His primeval essence runs out and he falls into despair. Ma Hong Yun, a rank one support Gu Master with little battle strength, shouts at him to run. Jiang Dong, overjoyed, changes direction and runs toward Ma Hong Yun with the king behind. He laughs that the lad has saved his life today and will not die in vain, then knocks Ma Hong Yun unconscious with a Gu worm and tosses him behind as bait. The beast king ignores the bait and keeps chasing. ch. 571
A wolf tide descends from the sky. The old beast king freezes, then turns to run. Jiang Dong recognises the vermillion flame and turtleback wolves and remembers the announcement that Wolf King would hunt in this area, so he cheers, shivering with excitement and in tears at his relief. The next moment the wolf tide reaches him and tears him to pieces in a few seconds. ch. 571
Mo Yao’s will sighs sorrowfully that Fang Yuan lets his wolves kill every living thing in their path, enemy or ally, and asks whether he fears going against the natural order and the opinion of other Gu Masters. Fang Yuan answers plainly. He says he announced his hunt long ago and that those overwhelmed by greed are like ants, deserving no pity when they block his path. ch. 571
