Don't think too much when killing people
Fang Yuan leads Jia Jin Sheng through the crack in the mountain to the hidden cave, and when Jia Jin Sheng asks why he was chosen over Jia Fu, Fang Yuan explains that Jia Fu’s high cultivation would let him either negotiate on his own terms or simply hand the image wall to the Gu Yue clan head, and that he refuses to leave that decision to someone else since he trusts no one’s reputation for integrity. Privately, Fang Yuan’s real reason is that Jia Jin Sheng’s weak cultivation makes him easy to manage, though he keeps this thought to himself. ch. 46
Inside the cave, Jia Jin Sheng laughs at the sight of the image wall’s looping images and mocks the fighting skill of the Gu Yue clan’s fourth generation ancestor shown on it, and Fang Yuan answers that hero and scum are both just labels the Gu Yue clan and the Bai family assign as it suits them. Jia Jin Sheng then notices the Flower Wine Monk’s corpse and presses Fang Yuan on what he really gained from a rank five powerhouse’s inheritance, refusing to believe Fang Yuan’s answer that only a Liquor worm survived. ch. 46
Jia Jin Sheng reveals that he heard a legend the year before about the Flower Wine Monk owning a Thousand Li Earthwolf spider, a massive rank five steed-type Gu skilled at burrowing that let the demonic cultivator move freely and evade righteous pursuers, and he reasons the cave itself must have been dug by that spider given how dense Qing Mao Mountain’s soil is. Fang Yuan grows troubled, since the spider is too large to have escaped through the narrow crack they entered and the image wall never once shows the Flower Wine Monk summoning it even while fighting for his life, raising the possibility that the fourth generation clan leader plotted against and killed the spider. Sensing he has missed something crucial about the cave and the inheritance, Fang Yuan falls into thought, while Jia Jin Sheng, no longer satisfied with the image wall alone, begins plotting to dig the rest of the inheritance out of him. ch. 46
The image wall abruptly changes to show a new scene: a gravely wounded, pale, bald Gu Master whose cut chest and limbs bleed no blood declares himself the Flower Wine Monk and names as his successor whoever has endured watching the recording loop for nearly a hundred days, on the sole condition that the successor exterminate the entire Gu Yue clan. Stunned, Jia Jin Sheng silently reasons that a rank five Gu Master rules a mountain outright, that inheriting such power could even raise his own poor talent, and that he need not honor the demand to wipe out the clan once the inheritance is his; he also resolves that Fang Yuan must now be killed to keep the secret, and begins to fake a calm smile as he turns to face him. ch. 46
Before Jia Jin Sheng can speak, Fang Yuan throws two blue moonblades that take his head before he can react, and two seconds later his corpse falls to the cave floor as blood dyes the withering vines on the wall. Fang Yuan looks at the body plainly, remarks that one should not think too much when killing, and turns his attention back to the image wall, intrigued by the twist it has revealed. ch. 46
