Xi Yu Forest

A strange forest whose black soil is like a swamp and smells pungent. The trees have no leaves, and the branches look like claws, yet wind still sounds like leaves moving. ^{ch. 287}

Hungry on a lone hill, Verdant Great Sun enters a strange forest looking for fruit: the black soil is like a swamp and smells pungent, the trees have no leaves, and the branches look like claws, yet wind still sounds like leaves moving. He finds no food, grows too weak to move, and falls unconscious against a trunk. In that sleep he hears voices saying reputation Gu lies at the forest center under a rock, and that the black soil will bury him as nutrients for the trees. He jolts awake and learns this forest is Xi Yu forest; the leaf-like sound was the trees whispering. He walks to the center, lifts the rock, and obtains reputation Gu, which later helps him leave ordinary abyss. ^{ch. 287}
