The Moonshadow Gu is a rank four Gu that hides well and restricts a Gu Master's primeval sea and primeval essence. The Gu Yue fourth generation clan leader used it against the Flower Wine Monk.
The name first appears on the cave wall image when the Gu Yue fourth generation clan leader springs Moonshadow Gu on the Flower Wine Monk. He calls it Moonshadow, says it is the best at hiding, names it rank four, and says it can restrict use of the primeval sea and primeval essence. Watching elders add that the Flower Wine Monk has been inflicted by it, can no longer simply use primeval essence, and that over time even his primeval essence will be threatened. ch. 15
Form and rank
It is already labeled rank four. ch. 15 The rank four label recurs when Fang Yuan reads clan recipes that treat Illusory Moon Gu as a basis for rank four Moonshadow Gu. ch. 156 No cited chapter describes its body, color, size, feed, or a Chinese glyph.
Effect
Early text states a restriction on primeval sea and primeval essence, and a threat to essence over time after the victim is inflicted. That is enough to leave the Flower Wine Monk unable to fight as a normal Gu Master while elders close in. ch. 15
Use against the Flower Wine Monk
The fourth generation clan leader uses it as a hidden finishing move after pretending to beg for mercy. The Flower Wine Monk kills him anyway and then fights the elders while under the Gu. ch. 15 Fang Yuan, still working from the wall scene, treats Moonshadow Gu as what dragged the Flower Wine Monk toward death after that battle. ch. 16
Suppression detail and fusion line
Clan recipe material for Illusory Moon Gu says that once refined, Illusory Moon Gu can serve as the basis for rank four Moonshadow Gu, and that Moonshadow Gu can be implanted into a Gu Master’s aperture to suppress use of primeval essence. Fang Yuan then states concrete rates: it suppresses 30% of the primeval essence in a rank four aperture, 15% in a rank five aperture, and 60% in a rank three aperture. For a C grade talent with only about 40% to 50% essence, that leaves no usable essence and no battle strength. He also judges that if the Gu entered his own aperture, the Spring Autumn Cicada’s aura would refine it at once and make it his. ch. 156
Fang Yuan then revises his early death reading: Moonshadow Gu only suppresses primeval essence and cripples the Gu Master; it was not the cause of the Flower Wine Monk’s severe injuries or death. ch. 156 Infection by Moonshadow Gu restricts primeval essence and is not fatal enough on its own. Because the Monk still needed to refine the Heavenly Essence Treasure Lotus without drawing attention, he stopped open slaughter and worked from the dark instead. ch. 163 Moonshadow Gu also could not cause the blood-covered wounds Fang Yuan remembers from the Photo-audio Gu image. ch. 183
