Monolith Gu is a defensive Gu that covers its user in rock skin. Gu Yue Man Shi uses it on Qing Mao Mountain.
The name first appears when Gu Yue Man Shi screams it as Fang Yuan’s Moonglow Gu moonblade reaches him in the wine tavern. A deep grey light covers Man Shi’s body and his skin turns to rock, but the moonblade hits before that rock skin has fully grown and opens a large wound across his chest. ch. 108
Effect
Activating Monolith Gu grows rock skin over the body. Man Shi’s limbs thicken into deep grey rock, his weight rises sharply, and even with thick rock skin Fang Yuan’s stomps still press his chest wound. ch. 108 Later full activation bulks his muscles and turns his whole appearance into a rock man. ch. 134
Two years before the tavern fight, Bai Ning Bing spared Man Shi in a bamboo forest and told him to refine Monolith Gu and fight again. In that memory Man Shi had not yet refined it. ch. 108
Related rock-skin Gu
A separate rank one Rock Skin Gu appears earlier on Qing Mao Mountain when a middle-aged Gu Master turns his arms grey-white and thick with rock to grapple Wang Da. ch. 76 Cited chapters never state a fusion that turns Rock Skin Gu into Monolith Gu. They only show the two names as distinct Gu.
Fate in the wolf tide
Fang Yuan treats Man Shi’s Monolith Gu as strong defense that can hold many lightning wolves alone, and values reclaiming it at about 3900 merit points, enough to rise at least twenty places on the battle merit board. He still ranks Chi Shan, Mo Yan, and Qing Shu’s Gu worms as more precious. ch. 133 By then, Man Shi has successfully refined Monolith Gu. When he charges Bai Ning Bing he activates it at full strength into rock-man form; Bai Ning Bing’s ice blade still bisects him through the rock, and the rock skin fades after death. ch. 134
After Man Shi dies, Fang Yuan later moves through the area where Man Shi and his groupmates fell and collects the Gu worms from those corpses. That chapter does not name Monolith Gu among the worms taken. ch. 142
Rank among rockmen offerings
The rockmen offerings are mostly rank one rock skin Gu and rank two monolith Gu, with only one rank three stone aperture Gu among them. ch. 412 Early Qing Mao Mountain chapters show the rock-skin effect without naming Monolith Gu’s rank in their own words.
