Lightning Eye Gu

During the wolf tide, Fang Yuan finds that Stealth Scales Gu fails against a lightning crown wolf. The text says the Lightning Eye Gu resides in that wolf’s eyes and lets it see through all sorts of cloaking. ^{ch. 127}

Cited chapters give no Chinese name for this Gu, and none state what it eats.

Form and rank

Early mentions place the Gu in the eyes of lightning wolves and, later, make Bai Ning Bing’s eyes shine with lightning when he uses it. The novel does not describe the Gu worm’s own body shape. ^{ch. 127 ch. 167}

Effect

On the lightning crown wolf, the Gu sees through cloaking, so Fang Yuan’s Stealth Scales Gu cannot hide him from that myriad beast king. ^{ch. 127} Fang Yuan later treats beast king class lightning wolves that may carry Lightning Eye Gu as a reason to stay careful even while stealthed. ^{ch. 131}

When Bai Ning Bing uses the rank three Gu, it breaks through stealth with the power of lightning. It does not grant see-through vision through ordinary cover: Fang Yuan stays hidden by combining Stealth Scales Gu with forest concealment, and Bai Ning Bing finds nothing. ^{ch. 167}

In thick smoke, Bai Ning Bing’s Lightning Eye Gu normally reaches about fifty steps ahead, but smoke cuts that to less than thirty. Even then he only sees what is ahead and cannot map the whole terrain. Paired with Fang Yuan’s Earth Communication Ear Grass, the two use that vision and hearing to avoid strong wolf packs while escaping. ^{ch. 169}

Bai Ning Bing’s use

Bai Ning Bing already has the Gu when he confronts Fang Yuan beside the dying thunder crown wolf. The text names it as rank three Lightning Eye Gu at that moment, but does not say when or how he obtained it. ^{ch. 167} He later offers to cooperate in the smoke, citing the Gu as his vision tool for the escape. ^{ch. 169}
