A nine heavens fragment is a remnant world of the immemorial nine heavens. A rank eight grotto-heaven can absorb one to gain lasting benefits at a steep cost.
Seven Star Child secretly absorbed a fragment of blue heaven, which helped his grotto-heaven survive even after he became an immortal zombie. Treasure yellow heaven formed when Daoist Countless Treasures fused a yellow heaven fragment world into his grotto-heaven. ch. 740
Absorbing a nine heavens fragment brings unpredictable mystical power, unlimited heavenly power for the immortal aperture, and calamities and tribulations that weaken greatly or vanish. Only a rank eight Gu Immortal’s grotto-heaven can absorb such a fragment world. After absorption, the grotto-heaven becomes part of the greater Gu Master world in a limited sense: tribulation pressure drops, and the aperture need not die when its Gu Immortal does. A large enough fragment can end tribulations entirely, as with treasure yellow heaven. The cost is freedom: even a small absorption takes in the aura of the greater world, roots the grotto-heaven there, and prevents placing that aperture back into the body, so the Gu Immortal must stay inside that world. ch. 740

Heaven’s will
Heaven’s will originates from the five regions and nine heavens. An ordinary grotto-heaven is independent of the outside world, but absorbing an immemorial nine heavens fragment lets heaven’s will in and diminishes the owner’s authority. Long Hair Ancestor never let his grotto-heaven absorb any immemorial nine heavens fragment for that reason. ch. 1119
