Black oil is an immortal material that contains food path dao marks. Once it sticks to a Gu Master, those marks are carved onto the body; conflicting dao marks alone can be fatal, and mortal bodies cannot endure the corrosion. ch. 1655 Fang Yuan later restates that contact with black oil carves food path dao marks into Gu Masters and weakens oil collectors through conflicting marks. ch. 1893
