Taking these mortal Gu, Fang Yuan sends his star will into his immortal aperture, trapping Mo Yao’s fake will and merging with it inside a starlight spiral to exchange memories. When she tries to destroy herself rather than be searched further, Fang Yuan replenishes her fake will with a starlight pillar, holding her at a fixed size so she cannot suicide. In despair, Mo Yao yields. The battle ends, and his star will returns with many gains, spent down to less than thirty percent of its original mass. What remains of Mo Yao’s will, its fighting spirit gone, he replenishes for a later search, leaving mortal Gu worms behind to keep her from suiciding. ch. 830
Searching a will means forcing it to comply, unlike simply reading a soul’s memories. A Gu Immortal unskilled at this gains nothing. Fang Yuan judges the inheritance truly hard to obtain. Activating the rank six Spring Autumn Cicada carries a real chance of self-detonating its user, so seeking Red Lotus’s will risks death. Even reaching the river of time does not guarantee finding a stone lotus island, since Fang Yuan has entered it three times and found none.
