Mid-sized Missions

Mid-sized missions pay eleven to a hundred merit points, against one to ten for small ones, and Fang Yuan exchanged for a good person title to accept them. The tiger king salamander was a rank six desolate beast with rank seven battle strength, and it earned him over ninety. He missed a hundred because he took its corpse, whose dao marks would otherwise have lifted the surrounding environment. He did it on purpose, to research why it rampaged. ch. 1895

The immortals look at the merit board with terrible expressions, since they earn ten points at most while Fang Yuan earns over ninety from one mission. Shen Cong Sheng looks to Shen Xiao, who forces a smile and offers Fang Yuan any price he can afford, plus the friendship of Shen clan. Fang Yuan names a Shen clan true inheritance or an Immortal Gu. Shen Cong Sheng offers an information path mortal Gu holding a transformation path Gu Immortal true inheritance, but it is rather incomplete, and its truly valuable parts stay with him. Fang Yuan hands it back for another, and when the second is incomplete too, he asks again. ch. 1895

Shen Cong Sheng asks grimly how much more he wants to see, and Fang Yuan proposes a portion of constant wave sound in exchange for the reason behind his merit points. Shen Cong Sheng agrees and tosses over a palm-sized conch, itself a desolate beast, holding a sound path rank seven immortal material special to Shen clan. Fang Yuan finds nothing suspicious and stores it in his sovereign immortal aperture. Asked whether to hear the secret alone or in public, Shen Cong Sheng says to speak directly. Miao Ming Shen sees Chu Ying sowing discord and judges that Shen Cong Sheng, knowing a secret told to one can reach others, must go public. ch. 1895

Fang Yuan places his palm on the obelisk, and its mission words vanish and return as new ones, such as clearing thousand soul fog from White Light Mountain and suppressing rioting seahorse kings. The immortals are stunned, because these missions are clearly above the earlier mortal level. Shen Xiao tries the obelisk but cannot accept them, and Fang Yuan says he used up a hundred merit points to do so. Fang Yuan refuses to explain how, since he has already told the reason: he received these missions. Shen Xiao points out angrily that one answer earned Fang Yuan a rank seven immortal material unique to Shen clan. Fang Yuan agrees he profited but says he lied about nothing. ch. 1895

Shen Cong Sheng swears silently to deal with Chu Ying after they leave the paradise, yet he laughs, praises Chu Ying’s wits and asks him to name a price for the method. Fang Yuan refuses to sell it, says they can try it themselves and vanishes in white light. Shen Cong Sheng is livid at being shown no face. Fang Yuan wants to keep his lead on the merit board for his plan to conquer the paradise, and he has dug a pit for Shen Cong Sheng to fall into. In a way he needs outside help and must split up the huge group, since large missions, unlike mid-sized ones, often need Gu Immortals who cooperate. His hidden Gu Immortal subordinates are useless here, since it seems only Gu Immortals who passed the test outside and arrived asleep on the starting island can enter and take missions. ch. 1895

After Fang Yuan leaves, the atmosphere at the Merit Obelisk turns heavy. Shen Cong Sheng forcefully demands that the surrounding Gu Immortals spend their merit points on the contested rewards, betting that one is what Fang Yuan exchanged for. Miao Ming Shen and the others are unwilling but have no choice, as they must consider the future. They cannot offend this rank eight sound path great expert. ch. 1895
