Poison Swallowing Toad

While scouting toward Bai Gu mountain, Fang Yuan and Bai Ning Bing find a rotting swamp southwest of a lava crocodile valley. From frogs screeching at the swamp center, Fang Yuan names the swamp’s lord as Poison Swallowing Toad. ^{ch. 207}

Form and rank

It is rank four, with a small body, and it is a tiny poison swallowing frog that is extremely hard to find in a large swamp. Fang Yuan also judges its speed as bad. ^{ch. 207} Cited chapters never print a Chinese name or glyph for it.

Effect

Fang Yuan classes it as a healing Gu and as the lord of that rotting swamp. He states that if a Gu Master is poisoned, activating it to absorb the poison produces a healing effect. ^{ch. 207} Chapters 207 and 208 never show that activation on a poisoned Gu Master; the healing claim stays in Fang Yuan’s judgment at the swamp.

Rotting swamp and the pheasant night

The southwest swamp is a poison habitat of snakes, bees, and large black spiders. Entering the deep swamp to lure the toad out is harder than its poor speed alone would suggest, and the two travelers lack any healing Gu of their own, so a poisonous bite would be serious trouble. They do not capture it. ^{ch. 207}

During the night when a Xuan Yuan Divine Pheasant wrecks the valley and surrounding territories, Fang Yuan and Bai Ning Bing hear the poison swallowing toad’s screech among the other beasts’ cries. After the pheasant leaves, the swamp is ravaged and its forces are in chaos; the cited chapters do not say whether the toad survives, dies, or flees, and no later cited chapter names a capture or owner. ^{ch. 208}
