Chimney Smoke Gu is a rank one Gu left in young Thieving Heaven's aperture in Thieving Heaven's dream realm. It was originally used to smoke food, and Fang Yuan also uses it in combat and refinement.
When Fang Yuan regains control of young Thieving Heaven against desert wolves, the aperture holds only a sandpit Gu, a chimney smoke Gu, and a clear water Gu. At a critical moment he puts all his remaining primeval essence into chimney smoke Gu. Dense smoke obstructs the wolves’ eyes and noses long enough for him to pull ahead, though the Gu was originally used to smoke food. ch. 1494
Clan competition duel
Sha Xiao’s transferred information includes the mortal killer move Blurred Grey Eyes, formed from sandpit Gu, chimney smoke Gu, and clear water Gu. It has eight steps. Successful activation puffs out white smoke that covers a target’s eyes in white ash and blinds them; washing with water makes the ash produce high heat that can burn the eyes and cause lasting blindness. Fang Yuan activates Blurred Grey Eyes in the clan competition and defeats his opponent with the ash and a kick. ch. 1496
Refinement use
When a refinement fire still threatens young Thieving Heaven, Fang Yuan activates chimney smoke Gu so smoke covers the basin sized fire and weakens the connection enough that the smoke could extinguish the fire and stop the refinement. After the fire absorbs that smoke and a baby phantom attacks, he throws chimney smoke Gu itself as bait. The phantom eats it, which buys him distance before he continues the improvised material sequence that yields sneak attack Gu. ch. 1500
