Qi tides are surging waves of heaven and earth qi that rampage after the five regions merge, killing lifeforms and forcing Gu Immortals to recuperate.
A Western Desert caravan hears a huge commotion that shakes heaven and earth. Gu Masters expect a hurricane, then see a boundless qi tide approaching from all directions like a grand tsunami. The qi tide is everywhere, carries sand, and has unstoppable might. It is a calamity far worse than any hurricane, and the caravan is doomed while Gu Masters flee. ch. 1967
Periodic surge
In black heaven, a huge wild qi tide comes from all directions. Wherever it goes, lifeforms perish. After several minutes it passes Spectral Soul, Fairy Zi Wei, and Old Man Zheng Yuan. Old Man Zheng Yuan says that after the five regions fused into one, once in a while qi tides surge and rampage over the world, sparing neither the five regions nor the two heavens. ch. 1968
Fairy Zi Wei analyzes that the heaven and earth qi of the five regions vary, which is why Gu Immortals who absorb foreign-region qi face aperture problems and often return home for tribulations. Now that the five regional walls are gone, the heaven and earth qi of the five regions are converging into one, and that is the reason for these qi tides. She cannot calculate how long the phenomenon will last or whether it will strengthen or weaken. ch. 1968
Spectral Soul adds that if heaven and earth qi do not fuse completely, there will not be peace, as if the five regional walls are thinned and spread over the five regions. Gu Immortals feel tremors in their immortal apertures as the two qi collide and are forced to recuperate; the stronger the immortal aperture foundation, the longer they need to rest. ch. 1968
Exposed grotto-heavens
A female immortal of Soul Pacifying grotto-heaven states that the five regions were fused, heaven and earth qi are merging, and qi tides sweep the whole world including black heaven and white heaven. Wherever the qi tide reaches, heaven and earth shake, grotto-heavens can no longer be concealed, and their positions are exposed. ch. 1969
Walls as qi tides
Fang Yuan concludes that qi tides arise from differences in heaven and earth qi, like water falling as a waterfall. With the regional walls gone and earth veins unified, the different heaven and earth qi of the five regions merge and produce qi tides. When heaven and earth qi become the same in all five regions, there will no longer be any qi tides. He also states that the five regional walls are all qi tides in essence, and that Gu Immortals suffer backlash using killer moves inside those walls much as they do in qi tides, because their own heaven and earth qi differs from the wall’s. ch. 2003 Qi harvest fruits that appear from qi tides are covered on qi harvest fruit.
