Aperture Wall

Cultivation mechanic in Reverend Insanity

Mechanic Aperture Cultivation

The aperture wall is the membrane around a Gu Master's primeval sea. Each small realm hardens that wall, and Relic Gu strengthens it to jump cultivation by a small realm.

To raise cultivation, a Gu Master expends primeval essence to nurture the aperture. Waves of essence crash into the surrounding aperture walls and slowly thicken and harden them. Initial stage walls are light barriers; middle stage walls are water barriers; upper stage walls are stone barriers. Advancing from initial to middle means nurturing the light barrier into a water barrier. ch. 33

Clan talk names Relic Gu as a method that enhances the aperture walls and assists cultivation to rise by a small realm, the easiest breakthrough method in that discussion. ch. 53

External essence risk

Nurturing with another person’s primeval essence can push the walls from light wall to water wall faster, but the external energy remains mixed in the aperture. The more external energy there is, the more impure the aperture becomes, stifling talent and limiting later development. Cleansing Water Gu can flush that sequela from the walls and the primeval sea. Using one’s own essence, including essence refined by a Liquor worm, leaves no such repercussions. ch. 50

Relic Gu strengthening

When Fang Yuan activates red steel Relic Gu, red rays pour into the aperture wall in place of ordinary primeval essence cleansing. The light membrane thickens at an astonishing pace, light condenses into streams, and the wall becomes a water membrane as he advances one small realm. A Relic Gu directly strengthens the foundation of the aperture; for a Gu Master that means advancing by a small realm. ch. 115

Stone membrane by cleansing

Advancement to upper stage can come from continuous nourishment alone. When the wall is no longer a watery membrane with flowing light, but a thick stone membrane of piled white light, the Gu Master has reached upper stage. ch. 145

Great rank reset

When a Gu Master breaks into a new great rank, the old wall form is replaced. After Fang Yuan rushes into rank three, the former crystal wall is gone, and a new round ball shaped light membrane aperture wall takes its place for initial stage of the new rank. Polluted essence left in that new light membrane can damage aptitude if it is not cleared. ch. 152

Light and water walls

Early talk names the same sequence as light walls and water walls once the middle stage form is created. ch. 212

Four small realm forms

Each great rank divides into four small realms, and the aperture wall form marks them. Initial stage is light membrane aperture walls with thin flickering light. Middle stage is water membrane aperture walls with freely flowing light. Upper stage is stone membrane aperture walls with light condensed to solid state. Peak stage is crystal membrane aperture walls with ethereal and pure radiance. High quality essence can stress the walls: too strong a wave makes even stone membrane shake, so the cultivator must meter the impact. ch. 230 ch. 231

Relic Gu series

With snow silver as primary force and blossom silver as supplementary, surging waves cleanse a water membrane until light settles like water freezing into ice, forming a thicker, more stable stone membrane and advancing middle stage to upper stage. The Relic Gu series raises cultivation by a small realm while providing a stable foundation and no side effects. ch. 312 Red steel Relic Gu serves rank two; white silver Relic Gu serves the matching higher small realm jump in the same series. ch. 145 ch. 312

Aperture sea and essence mechanics are covered on Aperture and Primeval Essence. Aptitude limits how large that sea can grow. The Relic Gu series is covered on Relic Gu. Initial Stage, Middle Stage, Upper Stage, and Peak Stage each name one small realm marked by these wall forms.
