Predicaments are wild beasts in one of the oldest Ren Zu legends, beasts that hunt Ren Zu and fear Hope Gu.
One of the oldest legends told during the Gu Yue clan Awakening Ceremony names a group of wild beasts called Predicament that love the taste of Ren Zu and long to eat him. In that telling Ren Zu cannot match their strength at first, later defeats many with Strength Gu and Wisdom Gu, and when they surround him again after those Gu leave, Hope Gu blazes and the Predicaments scream that they fear hope and withdraw. ch. 5 A following thought quotes the proverb form: when Predicaments come, give your heart to Hope. ch. 6
Appearance
Predicaments have all sorts of shapes and sizes. They are translucent and have various colors. On Hei Lou Lan’s heavenly road path, one Predicament is light brown, resembles a raccoon, and is the size of a mountain. ch. 2115
Heavenly road
On the heavenly road, Hei Lou Lan names Predicaments as a wild beast recorded in The Legends of Ren Zu, extinct within the five regions there, translucent beasts of many shapes and colors that can contain calamities and tribulations inside as a natural battlefield killer move. ch. 2115
Endurance and flesh
Later fights state that Predicaments lose only when battle strength greatly exceeds endurance limit, that strength path methods have greater effect, and that eating Predicament flesh restores strength if one does not overeat. ch. 2116
